Also Greek Deliveries started in 1988, but ended in 1993.

Nothing like reveling in your own ignorance. There is a huge difference but I am not going to bother going in to it here since all I will get back is trollish replies.

    LOL

In its current form (F3) the rafale is already very competitive and capable when you look where stands the competition today. But the UAE deal if it materializes will push it in a new category…

Well they don’t seem to be that affected given the recent military spending splurge of the UAE (Thaad etc…).

I recent huge dept of about $200bil was revealed that was “hidden” under the carpet. Oil is down. Construction companies are firing and stop constructions.

I presume there will be no decision unless the crisis is gone and UAE survive it.

If this contract is eventually signed this will be a big boost to the rafale programme ! I think the UAE is probably the best client on earth ! Ready to fund some new developpments to have the best available !:D

And the rafale will become not just a Beauty, but an interesting fighter after all.

OTOH you must be aware that the economic crisis hit the UAE very bad.

True, but how many on this forum will either want to or be able to grasp the difference.

    You said it all.
Is there indeed any difference? :p:p:p

There is realistic and wishful thinking.

Officially the Rafale is not out but the chances are extremely slim.
    MoD was clear.

The same statement from another source.

    Thing is that
    a. EPA wants the EF and
    b. decision will be taken from the PM, who desperately needs support from Mrs Chancellor and “Le Presedant”. Seems he already got the second one…..

    * Note to french posters: AFAIK, there is no official statement of the MoD that the Rafale is out of the competition…….

Except of course the statement of the minister himself of Jan 23.

When did Greece and India receive their M2ks? Hardly 15 years later!

First Hellenic Mirage 2000 order was placed in 1985.

Second Mirage2000-5 order was placed in 2000, deliveries/acceptance started at 2007 due to major problems is the electronics suite of the aircraft, instead of 2004.

    take your pick.

Even without stealth (which is not its only ace nor the only card in its deck) the F-35 is superior to the aircraft it is replaceing.

    Thank God for that!

Nobody takes a few seconds thow to think if it will be better then the aircraft it will be called to confront…….:p

Good to hear the pilot made it! Now Greek brothers, get rid of that lawn dart and get yourself some Gripens instead 😉 And since our dear government has all but given up on national defence Im sure you could get barely used C/D birds from Swedish AF stock for peanuts.

    Grippen? Still single engined.

Of course when one makes such comparisons, one must take into account that the EF will burn the external tanks’ fuel during the first minutes of its mission, and then he has the option to jettison the tanks whenever necessary.

I have much respect and admiration for Pierre Sprey – primarily due to what he contributed to the F-16 and A-10 programs.

It is because of his condemnation and criticism of how and what the USAF decided to do to the original LWF / ACF concept of simple, cheap daytime dogfighter, by adding weight (additional fuel, sensors and strengthening for multi-role reason), while not adding additional wing and tail plan area, which he stipulated what was needed, is why the basic air-to-air performance (PWR and agility) has degraded so much – as he warned it would!

So I would be inclined to take note of what concerns him and what he says.

Wasn’t it also Sprey and Boyd who also predicted the problems, delay’s, degradation of performance (especially in range) when the US Navy pushed for the modification of the Northrop YF-17 over that of the navalised YF-16?
And were they not right again???????????

As for Winslow Wheeler – I’ve never heard of him!

    Regards
    Pioneer

I humbly believe that the Lightning is a perfect match to the USAF doctrine as matured during the 90s and early 00s.
During this period the USAF had to face less then modest opponents, were the goal was military operations without NO casualties whatsoever.
The F-35 will be perfect for Bosnia or Iraq type operations, as long as it takes cover by some real fighters (F-22, F-15, EF etc).

Trouble is what will happen if some F-35 user, needs to operate it against an well prepared and equivalent opponent. Say USAF against PLAAF, for example. If stealth is its only ace, it is going down…..

That is utter ****e. He has at least flown the aircraft, not one of the vocal critics, you included, can say anywhere near as much.

So, if you were test pilot working for LM, and discovered some flabby performance, would you advertise it?

How many independent pilots, or at least from the co partner countries, have flown it?

Here’s the takeaway- whatever drag/performance penalty the F-35 with an internal load may have, it still performs better than a clean F-16C Blk 50.
    We’re not comparing a unloaded F-35 with a loaded F-35.

How pathetic does it sound to compare the F-35 against aircraft 2 (two) generations older. F-16 and F-18 are two generations older in terms of conceptual design and production/material technology.

It is like the French comparing the Rafale to some newer version of the F1, or the Brits to compare the EF to an avionics updated Jaguar…..
