Nobody could be sure, but if I had to bet, I would say
that it is a way to lead the diverted from the inlet air,
right on top of the wing,
in a manner to form vortexes.

The rafale does the same thing.

But then again I could be wrong.

It looks like a LERX, but if its a CAESAR test rig it might well be a small side looking array (smart skin), I can’t think of anything else remotely sensible!!.

Anyone want to hazard a guess?, any more info? is it on both sides?

    Cheers

If it is any form of antenna, then it is sure under the shadow of the canards.
If I had to guess, I would say it is LERX

    Do not forget reliability!

In a real mission, one would much prefer, to have his main landing gear plus flaps, broken, than his retractable refuelling probe.

I doubt the AdlA would need to buy the typhoon when they already have a superior plane… 😀

AdlA is getting the raptor ???:diablo: :diablo:

As mentioned the PIRATE provides cinematical ranging. The triangulation calculation is of course more accurate. It is possible in the way you described it and this method is for example used by advanced ESM.

Yes, it does not only seems possible, but easy to implement!
Isn’t safe to assume, that fuctions like this are, or going to be incooporated, but remain classified ?

Ok. Now this is just an idea.

    Fighters always fly in pairs.
Two EFs flying in loose formation detect a single target via pirate.
    Both radars are off.
IRSTs usually provide excelent angular information but no range.
The 2 EFs, via datalink, exchange the above angular info, plus aircraft bearing and possition info from navigation subsystem.

Is it possible for a computer to calculate range, through triagulation?

    IMHO:

Like flex put it, these stunts are simply crowd pleaser’s and a me too thinggy 😀 . The real strengths of the Raptor cannot be showed at an Air-show. Plus, what do you when an A-Darter is coming up your tail-pipe at 90+ G’s 😮

Fedaykin and Hyperwarp, you said it all:dev2:

For once, I thought, someone really figured out a way of using the cobra manoeuvre.

Thanx for just confirming that the only use of the cobra, is making a happy smile on the face of naive american (and russian) boys….

    BTW IRIS-T is much better

giggling at the people who are now laughing at the people who said the raptor cant do cobras because the same people were laughing at the useability of the cobra in air combat.

    hypocrisy, its a wonderful drug.

would you care to share with us the possible use of a cobra maneaouvre, in a real combat situation?
