A family friend told me about an experience they had of flying a domestic flight in Russia on Aeroflot about 20+yrs ago (during the Cold War era)

Apparently there were ducks & goats in the passenger cabin.

Obviously they did not cause a crash & it sounded like this was quite “normal”.

Unfortunately, IIRC, only 24 F-14Ds were produced.

I imagine the F-14 is quite expensive to maintain/operate, unless one can obtain spares from Iran.. 😀

I agree with the chaps who suggested:

    F-20 Tigerhsark (updated)
    Ching-Kuo (upgraded engines, radar, electronics)

USAF has experience flying the Mig-21 before, according to a YouTube vid I saw once (OK, more than once). how about some Chengdu J-7Es for day/fair-weather air defence, to help ANG with this problem and help balance the Sino-US trade imbalance 🙂

Naturally, these J-7Es should be upgraded by Uncle Sam’s friends with gizmos by Elbit/Elta & Python 5 AAMs to make the US-Israeli defence relationship a bit more of a 2-way street 😉

For night-time/all-weather air defence duties, some F-15 Silent Eagles would do the trick :diablo:

I understood departmental budget cuts would be c. 25%, not 40%.

I would cut the MoD’s admin staff by at least 25% for starters….

Freeze the pay for all MoD civil servants, recruitment freeze of all MoD civillian staff.

The 2 CVFs are unaffordable in the current economic climate. Sadly, I think the CVFs should be axed.
    (Cancel F-35Bs.)

I’m not a fan of F-35 (pros & cons of F35 already debated ad nauseum on these fora, let’s not start that again), so I’d cancel UK F35 purchase altogether.

If F35A needs replacing, gripen NG should be a top contender.

I agree with other that the British Army needs to be lighter, more mobile, but we need more airlift & sealift to get expeditionary forces to zones of conflict. We need more C-17s.

What’s to be kept: All helicopter assets, retire Puma, buy more Merlin, Chinooks (including 2nd hand if in good condition).

    That’s all for now.

    Why doesn’t Delta go for new-build “MD-90s”?

Delta could be the launch customer for the ARJ21-900…

    😀

Well said and with all the corruption going down there in India

….and of course there’s no corruption whatsoever in Indonesia 😉

    An interesting deal.

How much has the rouble appreciated against the Euro in the last 6 months?

It must have been one hell of a sales pitch.

    How about the Kawasaki T-1?

Is Japan forbidden from selling a non-combat (trainer) aircraft?

It is unlikely a USAF T-1 would ever be engaged in a “hot war”

    I support the airline too.

There is nothing worse than a long-haul flight sitting next to a chunky monkey who overflows into one’s seat.

    Uncomfortable & frankly disgusting.

They (the obese ones) should definitely pay more if they cannot fit into a single seat.

There is a YouTube video of an armed Super Tucano (Brazilian, I think) pursuing & destroying a drug smuggling light aircraft.

May be a swing-wing aircraft would be useful – high-speed to intercept sector, then low-speed to visual identification, pursuit +/- kill.

How many salvageable F-14s at BMARC? 😀

    Please calm down.

Forgive my ignorance, but aren’t there already a “ton of air & ground crew” deployed in theatre?

Or has the RAF secretly withdrawn from Afghanistan?

Is a 727 with hushkits etc. fitted really noisier than a 747?

    I’ve been under/near the flightpath of a 747 & its pretty noisy…….

I’ve flown through a few air-pockets. I can assure you they are not enjoyable experiences, “galdri”.

I am glad to hear the aircraft landed “safely” & there are no known casualties.
