Il-96 has no crashes at all

Yes, but there are only a few dozen Il-96s in operation, vs several hundred each of 777s, A340s & MD-11s.

Which is best? How long is a piece of string?

    Aesthetically, I like the Il-96, & I like stretched/modernised aircraft, so I like the MD-11 too.

(Ahem)……IMHO, LERXes are definitely the way forward! 😀

Not that I am biased or anything…. 😉

At the risk of sounding like a pessimist, are these aircraft going to be fitted with IRWR/IRCM?

What is the threat level to non-military aircraft in Iraq?

I think the BBC reported very recently that RAF military transports usually operate at night with all their lights off (except cockpit, I guess), because its so dangerous in Iraq.

I was recently wondering exactly the same thing!

Sorry, just read the 1st post properly, you’ve already listed JH-7.

    😮

Xian JH-7A “Flying Leopard” was designed as a (maritime) strike aircraft & is in service with the PLAN for maritime strike armed with AShMs.

But it is also capable of ground attack too.

It’s a pity the AIDC F-CK-1C/D Ching Kuo (aka IDF) is no longer in production.

Presumably, if LM would profit from F/A-50 sales, it would also benefit from (upgraded) Ching Kuo IDF sales as it was involved in design manufacture, if I remember corretly.

The IDF with better engines & CFTs (already feasible) would be competitive in the modern lightweight fighter market, whilst not threatening late model F-16s (block 50/52/60).

    Nice pics! 🙂

    Presumably they are turbofans.

    Very interesting.

I await this new Korean “F/A-50” with interest.

Do you think Lockheed Martin will be concerned that the “F/A-50” might threaten 2nd-hand F-16 sales?

AFAIK, the Philippines are really impecunious. I am not sure they will be able to afford new-build lightweight fighters in the foreseeable future – unless they discover oil or something 😀

This thread might be a bit premature……

I saw an article in a UK newspaper saying that, surprise, surprise, Italian trade unions might block this deal if they don’t like the business plan – incl. e.g. mass redundancies

Many (myself included) have wondered about a modernised 21st century F-20 Tigershark!

Yes, I forgot to include the light-fighter version of the KAI T-50 – I think it’s called the A-50?

The Gripen is very much at the top-end of this category. Many countries will not be able to afford it, unless they opt for 2nd-hand JAS-39A/Bs. 🙁

An upgraded F-7MG as described by Distiller seems like a reasonable compromise – if you’re willing to buy Chinese! 😉

Does this mean we will now have the “Air France-KLM-Alitalia” group

    a.k.a. AKA?

    Blimey.
