Any updates anyone?
Kev, never compromise on tea, nothing but Twinings.
I had twinings everyday tea or something like that once, it was utterly tasteless. Who takes sugar btw?

Here is an intersting little clip with an A-50, starts at about 2.50, I’m not too sure if its technically accurate though 😀

I don’t force anyone to read my thread, if you think its a waste of your time then just ignore it. The reason this thread was started was out of curiosity to see if anyone had ever had any plans to return the TSR 2 to flight, after all Thatcher had this idea. I DON’T think anyone could reasonalbly do this without a LOT of money and i’m not proposing that anyone should try, as i said this thread is just light hearted curiosity.
Ahh I see, wrong forum then. I was looking for an updated book on military aircrft. If any mods are reading could you move this thread, thanks.
I have herd of the sr.53 and the airfix kit, very rare now though, it too would make a good project after the TSR-2 is flying again. We might as well reconstuct the sr.177 how much of this was built? is left? then we might be able to call it a restoration 😀
Anyone???
Thanks for that its been bugging me for a while. :D:D:D
The red top isn’t all aspect but its seeker can lock onto targets warmed by friction which would be sufficient in a head on engagement due to the hot leading edges/nose. In general IR guided missiles have a better kill ratio compared to SARH at most 40%. A lightning isn’t a mig-21 there are too many variables to compare kill ratios. The AIMVAL/ACEVAL exercise was with equally trained aircrew, wich is very similar to our original simulation RAF phantom v RAF lightning.
If a phantom did come up against a lightning in a head on attack the phantop would be able to fire first but the sparrow is a SARH missilw which needs the target to be continuously illuminated, the lightning would soon get in range and would be able to release its IR red top, a fire and forget missile. Sure the lightning would be destroyed but soon followed seconds later by the phantom, this was proven when small F-5 with sidewindres were able to shoot down large powerful F-15’s with sparrows. The maths of trading larger two seater a/c for smaller cheaper single seaters just doesn’t work.
While i’m here i thought i might add my view. In level flight a certain amount of lift is required to stay airborne, now when turning a force is required towards the centre of the circle. This is achieved be banking so the wings tilt towards thecentre of the circle so a component of the lift is directed towards the circle. Now this means the component of lift dirctly upwards balancing the aircraft’s weight has decreased so to make up for this the angle of attack must be inceased creating more lift but more drag. If the power of the engines cannot overcome this extra drag the aircraft will lose airspeed. Hope that this helps and you can undrestand it 🙂
Does anyone else have anything similar in the pipeline to the Novator KS-172 AAM-L? The only thing I can think of which is similar is the AIM-54 Phoenix, less range and now retired.
No, its the victor at the yorkshire air museum
This colour scheme is pretty good there is an enlarged roundel undreneath which looks pretty neat. The grob at southport used a similar scheme.
