It was closed in the 1980’s early 90’s

And there was no heating in the hangars back then, so lots of heavy winter clothing while working on aeroplanes, the not so good old days!

The way airshow prices are going up i might as well just save the money and buy my own spitfire in a couple of years.

All i can say is they better pull out the stops and have some aircraft flying as last years was a bit of a damp squib compared to previous years.

You might get a half decent plastic kit if you save up for a couple of years :p

I thought last year’s Legends was one of the best shows of the year.

Bit blurred, scanned from photo, I didn’t have a digital camera back then.

Never missing an opportunity for a plug…..if you want a seat near the flightline, join Friends of The Fighter Collection and get free admission to the enclosure. You can even bring your own seat and food. We now offer an incredibly reasonable online membership.

My first solo off that runway in a Cessna 150. Great memories of that time.

Yes that’s as Paul posted but my query was the TFC enclosure….

Friends of TFC will not have an enclosure at the September show. There will. of course. be a sales outlet.

I got my father to write a lot of his memories down before he died. One posted on the BBC site here http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ww2peopleswar/stories/81/a1951481.shtml

We visited the sites of this story with him back in 2000 along with other younger family members and it was an incredibly emotional experience.

The complete film used to be on YouTube, appears to have been removed, all that’s left is a copy someone made from their TV

I have done that only once. Totally bonkers.

Who could ever have thought xxxxxxxx was a good idea?

    Moggy

    A common question in flying!

Going slightly off topic, however in my first training establishment back in 1973, using a fleet of C150’s, we didn’t use headsets, just listened out above the engine noise and responded with a handheld mic. It was years later that headsets were used. I always felt I needed 3 hands at some points, 2 to fly the aircraft and one to handle the mic. Informing ATC you were going around while sorting out full flap and power settings so they could change the traffic lights at the end of the runway was always fun, particularly if the mic had fallen out of its cradle during the chaos.

Ditto the headset. I got my own as a Christmas present about 20 years in to my flying.

The hangar heating has been installed on this one. Just hope it’s working for the Friends event, An Evening with The Fighter Collection on the 11th March 🙂 Tickets still available.

    Agree, The Artist very enjoyable.

Also recently saw a film by a new up and coming writer called Shakespeare, his latest, Coriolanus, is very good, lots of blood and gore and no CGI. Excellent acting by Ralph Fiennes and quite a good storyline. This writer may go far.
