How many of that crowd are still there?
Four on a regular basis, a few on a visiting basis. We should do a 2011 version.
Andy & whatsherface have also been there. Chuck too I think. Not sure about Princess Edward
I remember that, it was raining. Chuck, if you are referring to the US royalty in the form of Charlton Heston, visited around the time the AAM was built.
Always see the Queen going to hundreds of events each year & wondered if she had ever been to an air show at Duxford ? I am sure since she grew up during the war she has seen and heard Spits &Hurricanes ,Mossies, Lancs. humming along across the skies in the UK . Just wondering…. she always wears lovely hats !

I think the aircraft tend to go to her house when requested, one of her privelages I believe. Saves her paying to become a Friend of TFC or Friend of Duxford.
Which leaves me wondering what’s up as EADS has never appeared at Legends (going back to the 90s) with their entourage, nor did Red 7 by its former owner. Yet both groups have visited La Ferte Alais over the years and now RIAT has pulled the EADS 109 out of their hat!

I love a good conspiracy theory, even though they usually turn out to be furtive imagination. Having watched airshow programming from close up for over twenty years, the reasons why some aircraft don’t appear at certain shows are vast and varied. Usually driven by business decisions, costs, positioning and operational requirements. I have yet to see conspiracy as a reason.
Bentwing Bomber is spot on when he says TFC pull out all the stops to get a great show and I imagine RIAT do the same.
:D:D You can still facebook it :D:D The blog just seems to lag and lack this year, my thoughts and that is not an attack TFC just a passing view. Anna 🙂
There is a Flying Legends group on Facebook. It’s not run by TFC (Trademark infringement??) and has about 500 or so members. The last entry was back in May and little information about the show.
TFC Blog has had 337,600 visitors since 2008 and the last entry was today, ironically explaining why Facebook isn’t in the mix.
Make up your own minds on the value of Facebook, Twitter etc This jury is still out. 😀
Well said Kev. Emotional anniversary for lots of families, including mine.
However, I’m really irked at the insistence in TV at the moment at having 20-somethings relating the stories to us on camera. A bit of gravitas is needed there, I feel, someone older and with more authority. That smacked too much of ‘to appeal to the younger generation, we need young talking heads’.
That’s life these days and not just in TV!
Based on the standard of TV programmes these days I thought this was extremely enjoyable and TV money being spent on real aircraft in the air, whatever their pedigree, should be encouraged.
If this programme encourages just one youngster to take an active interest in historic aviation it will have been worth it. All of us who are involved with collections are aware that someone needs to carry on the good work.
Biggles books encouraged me to take to the skies and they weren’t exactly historically accurate or politically correct!
Well done to everyone on the forum who was involved.
There is a Flying Legends group on Facebook.
The Friends of TFC Blog is kind of active and we are soon to be even more active with online member facilities, following the publication and distribution of the latest edition of Fighter Log. The election has caused a hold up at the printers. Which would you rather have posted through your door, Fighter Log or election leaflets? Apparently there’s more money to be made in printing election leaflets!
Keep a look out for our new features on the Blog and TFC website. There will be a ‘build up to Legends’.
Our elfin safety gremlins must be exploding all over the place looking at these, fantastic!
Or join The Friends of The Fighter Collection, £12 per year if UK based, free enclosure at Legends and free entry to flightline walk. Three magazines per year and evening hangar events. Merchandise, (lovely models), competitions, best blog site, great web site, video clips, build up to Legends etc and all for only 25p per week.
Did it go well? I was flying yesterday and I was also thrown about quite a bit. I’ve been attempting to do a solo trip to Cambridge for several weeks now, but the weather has thwarted me on every occasion. 🙁
Passed over Cambridge last evening, beautifull views, extremely good viz but it felt like I was flying with the concrete tie down blocks still attached! Very bumpy, but it’s been like that for a while now.
Standing was an issue in there too – I had a go at two people who decided that standing at the back wasn’t good enough for them and decided to move down and stand behind the front row (we were sat in row 2).
Thanks for the feedback, looks like we need to establish ‘remain seated’ areas and ‘standing only’ areas, ‘big lense free area’ and big lenses only’ areas in future. We will have a plan by next Legends.
Group hug at the end would be most appropriate 😮
Hello chaps.
, is there an area/s along the airfield where you can get a good view and not be subjected to “Spitfire look! Stand up…!”? Is the bank right at the bottom end any good?
Thanks,
Tom
