when is the next edition of that fantastic log due out?
Should be out in a couple of weeks, I’m sure the editor would welcome all proof reading skills, just look inside the front cover of the last log and you will find contact details. Perhaps you could just buy him a spellchecker.
Just my experience, always found in these situations I had more control with the tail up for a while. Tail on the ground in a crosswind can still lead to weather cocking if not carefull. Hasten to add if its really bad crosswind find somewher else to land.
Not advocating right or wrong method but wheeling on does give you more control to take off again quickly if you aren’t happy with the landing situation, particularly if there is a stiff crosswind.
Lots of satisfaction in 3 pointing a taildragger though.
can you help with this tech+nical point grayfly?
Digby, Iwill try and get something from the horse’s mouth (always better than the horses a**e 😀 ), however can’t speak for someone who may not wish to participate in these discussions.
Sparky…………you asked for this………
You can get a badge, metal or cloth, a car sticker, a baseball cap, a polo shirt, Fighter Log three times a year, a chance to win unique TFC competitions, your own enclosure at Legends, free access to FLW. Other Friends events are currently being planned. This was not an advert.
Friends of TFC was started in response to the many demands of the public (including aviation enthusiasts) to understand what the warbird community was about and in particular TFC. This was about 12 years ago when the airshow scene was very active in the UK and Europe, there was lots to talk about.
The main point of Friends at that time was to be an information outlet and organisation that members could feel part of and associated with TFC. As with all these support groups it costs money to organise and maintain and not discourage people by setting membership price too high. Membership has been held at the same low price for the last 12 yearsto encourage people to join and understand how these aircraft influenced our present and value the efforts of those involved.
The additional money raised through merchandise etc is not much (after you’ve paid the accountants and tax man) and is used to support the volunteer activity in terms of tools and equipment. In overall terms it’s a drop in the ocean, but it doesn’t stop us trying.
(Also too many films using computer generated images, campaign for the real thing.!!)
Quite right Willow, if I sponsored an aircraft I would like a say in where it could be seen and that’s why Friends of TFC don’t have a say in the aircraft events, they don’t sponsor them, they just enjoy being associated with that organisation. A fairly harmless pursuit.
Why weren’t TFC at Coventry? I suppose you would have to ask the Coventry organisers.
I think, sadly, that Digby summed it up in one of his many threads, always one to challenge views, that how often, where and when we see warbirds is realy up to the owners and operators. If it’s a business rather than a hobby then it’s subject to all the commercial pressures of the market place. We on these forums don’t influence that too much except by attending airshows and supporting whatever aviation event it is. Lots of voluntary work goes on which to some extent hides the true costs.
As Digby also once said if you want unlimited flying and access, buy one or sponsor one.
On a happier note at least Legends is still THE event, bit like having Xmas in the summer.
Lots of time? Well, about a year in most cases. Has anybody actually seen any TFC aeroplanes display anywhere other than Duxford (and in many cases at Legends only)?
I think this says more about the costs of operating warbirds and the money avaialable in the market place rather than their servicability. Having a commercial contract for a couple of years obviously helps.
Tea actually!!
Bentwing Bomber, you’ll always be welcome in the Friends enclosure…….perhaps this year for the first time?
Just to even things up a bit, there will be some German veterans in the Friends of The Fighter Collection enclosure. All ‘Friends’ and new ‘soon to be’ members welcome. Remember, Friends of TFC also get free access to flight line walk.
