    Hi

FS9 is the way to go FSX will bring a computer to it’s knees. you can get many addons Scenery, Aircraft etc for FS9 which will bring up to near the standard of FSX.

XPlane I’ve never played but it appears the flight modelling is much more realistic than FS9,FSX etc, but the scenery is not as avisually appealing.

    Hi

I was always under the impression that Landing lights were kept on until 10,000 ft then turned off if not in cloud etc, in that case it would be down to the discretion of the Pilot in charge. Wether the turning off of lights is dependant on the transitioning altitude I do not know, as transition altitudes differ throughout the world.

As for the taxi lights I would have thought that taxiing with landing lights is a no no, due to the intensity of them burning out the retinas of your virtual airport workers.:)

Airfix’s TSR2 is not released at this time, I think it is due aout in October/November time frame.

I have heard rumour it is based on the 1/72nd TSR2 released a couple of years ago. I have one on order, will let you know how i get on with it. I built the 1/72 version which didn’t turn out too bad, but was a struggle at times.

If you have entered the scenery into the correct folders within FS 2004 you will need to activate them in the scenery library on the setup page of FS2004

Have you done this? if not your scenerys will not show. Also Google any probs you may have with scenery theres always a load of advice on there.

World of AI= Real world airlines and flightplans it features an all in one installer so you get the aircraft and the routes they fly.= http://www.world-of-ai.com/
    World freeware scenery= http://walhalla.mine.nu/fs2004.php
Great free rendition of Boston Logan by George Grimshaw=http://www.flytampa.org/

    Hi Matt

Depending on your computer specifications the reason FSX is unplayable on your pc is because the latest incarnation of flight simulator is a major rescource hog which will squeeze the life out of most pc’s. Even the latest spec machines struggle with it.

If you can run FS2004 reasonably I would stick with that, there are plenty of downloads free and payware to bring FS2004 upto a standard comparable with FSX without the slide show FSX produces.

Hope this helps in some way.

    Hi M

I would advise Flight Simulator 2004 which has default aircraft including small private aircraft including Beech, Cessna etc. Airliners B737, 747, 777. Historic aircraft
De Havilland Comet 88, DC3, Lockheed Vega etc.

It doesn’t need an all singing all dancing computer to run it as long as you have a decent CPU, Graphics Card, and at least 1 Gig of memory. You can adjust settings within the simulation to suit your computer set up.

Whilst not been the newest incarnation of the Flight Sim series the FSX can bring the newer computers to their knees, so I would stick with FS 2004.

Any more help required please ask.

Thanks for your quick reply. I think the aircraft you have pointed me in the direction of is the YF12 which as I recall was the interceptor forerunner of the A12/SR71.

The aircraft I am wishing info on is the single seat version of the Blackbird with the full length fuselage chines. It had a slightly shorter nose than the 71 and was a single cockpit aircraft. The A12 was part of the ” Oxcart ” program been retired in 1968 with the introduction of the SR71. The A-12 I believe was the airframe that carried the GTD-21 drone.

    Hi again

The aircraft is on AVSIM but is a download for FS 2004. I don’t run FSX but I think that some aircraft are compatible with it. I suppose you could try to use it in FSX if you are feeling brave enough.

Are FS2004 aircraft compatible with FSX?
    – Yes, you should be able to fly FS2004 aircraft in FSX. However, some add-on aircraft may cause problems with certain gauges, modules or other additional software. Some payware developers released or will release updates in order to make their products compatible with FSX. Freeware developers may do the same if nessecery, but since it is their hobby and not their job, some might choose to move on with the development of new aircraft for FSX only and keep their current products for FS2004 only. Please check the aircraft list for information about the compatibility of various aircraft.
