A very interesting article in the FT yesterday, (you have to be registered to view it): http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/15d6e362-419c-11df-865a-00144feabdc0.html

Perhaps there should be a separate thread for each major aircraft type (particularly British ones!), instead of all the diverse various threads relating to, say, viscounts? Just call it the aircraft name ‘Viscount’.
I think you will find Old Fart was posting ironically, based on the gibberish ‘facts’ that SAEN came out with.
Glad to say that that the runway extension has now been passed by the Government:

Progress on the rail station here:

An interesting couple of years coming up methinks.
Why would they want ryanair – they are well known for driving a hard bargain and then leaving once start up deals have evaporated. The inability for ryanair is actually a selling point for the airport, as other carriers will be able to develop routes at Southend without the threat of ryanair moving in and nicking their hard developed business (defensibility).
I’m also sure that most potential airlines can clearly see the advantages of having the terminal right by the rail station to London, with industry leading ‘plane to train’ times.
rdc1000 – the road has not caused a ‘RESA problem’ for a few years now, except to road traffic!
Yes much progress, much more to do according to their website. I think they are holding their breath for Wednesday afternoon’s decision by the planning committee on Southend Council.
A really nice bunch of experienced people, this is terrible news, especially in the run up to Christmas. It shows how deep the recession is really biting.
Let’s hope that something of the operation can be salvaged from the administrators.
If this goes ahead, in my mind it would be the environmental disaster of the century, which subsequent generations will hate there forbears for.
There is still untapped capacity at LHR for passenger ATMs at LHR, once the bizjets, delivery flights, cargo flights, royal/VIP flights etc are removed elsewhere.
If the government allows this, it just shows what a sham all there blathering about the environment and green taxes is. Still, it’s only London, so Labour will do all they can to make it an unfit place to live, as most of their voters are up north.
Thanks so much for capturing this moment for posterity for all of us unable to make it down today – much appreciated!
Heard that they do not have any radar available until the end of June due to a lightning strike last week 😮
Depends what you are after – how many people, what sort of facilities, length of runways etc?
London Southend does have a conference room available for use, but it does not have a massive capacity. If you ask nicely, they might let you use the terminal before passenger flights restart.
