If it’s from a pos war jet it might refer to a fatigue index indicater, or something similar.

Suely most if not all WW1 float planes etc. (eg. Sopwith Baby) would have had wooden floats, along with the flying boats of that period.

Good day fpr War films, on TV today. “Dambusters” on right now, and “633 Squadron” on later.

Forget or just ignore any controversies etc. and just sit back and enjoy.

My recently deceased Father, actually skived off school to witness the composite flying boats take-off from the river Tay.

Incidently to be perfectly correct, the boy character should be referred to as “Oor Wullie”, in keeping with the local dialect. Yes, my family roots are from the Dundee area.

Now these bring back some memories. I’ve fitted, removed, serviced, and tested these, while working on Vulcans at Scampton.

They were fitted just above the right-hand (looking rearwards) back seater, at about head height.

They could fire red, green and red/green twin very cartridges, and also a “window” type decoy cartridge.

I’m sure the Nimrod had one fitted as well, but it’s location escapes me at the moment.

Love the “joy-riding” tail-sitters on the Spitfires.

I take it that this was due to the windy conditions, as much as anything else.

    Lovely photos.

Is it just me, or does the Tiger Moth have a problem with its fuselage ? It appears to have a large wrinkle stretching from just aft of the lower wing to the tailplane. I hope either I’m wrong, or I’m seeing things.

I wish I had oportunities to do what your helpers do, when I was younger.

Had to content myself with various double-jointed antics around Vulcans, Nimrods and Buccaneers.

Hi Wyvernfan, sorry for the delay in replying. Not good news I’m afraid.

I’ve had a good look at my photos, but can’t find any that match the panel you have. it would appear that the “XII” annotation wasn’t universaly applied, and none of my pics show a whiskered foxhead.

It could be down to my poor photgraphic efforts, as many of the pics seem to have turned quite dark.

If you’re intrested, I will post ome of my better efforts, including one of a Buccaneer in an unatural position.

It’s great to see a Lysander painted in camouflage instead of SOE black.

Are they planning on fitting the winglets on the wheel spats ?

Sat watching Odette which shows the courage of another WW2 heroine (who actually survived) and her suffering at the hands of the Gestapo.

Also has aviation involvement with film of Merlin engined Halifaxes taking off, and a post-war Hercules engined Halifax (underwing registration numbers clearly visable) in flight.

A bit of sweat, blood, and many choice “Anglo-Saxon phrases” (I’m sure you know what I mean), always seems to help, along with the “I’ve just attacked my finger with a hammer” wardance.
