Short rwy
Because of the montains close to the end of the rwy.
To clear the obstacles with a not too steep path, they had to draw a huge displaced treshold. On the other side, this can be used as a stop-way.
Those are not high definition !
Tell me wich one ?
I’ll give you the good one
More details
I have the time to give you some more details.
We have started intensive training with our B-25 “Russell’s Raider” to be ready for the summer season. This W/E we made 4 long training flights.
Our instructor was Peter Kuijpers and on the left seat Michael, Stef and myself. Saturday morning, we started with general airwork, steep turns, recovery from stalls, simulated engine failures… in the valley between Sion and Brigg. In the afternoon we made “standard” pattern (patterns in Sion and Ambri are everything except “standard” !!!) and “touch and go” at Sion airport but we had to stop for the noise; the airport received several complains… That’s why, on Sunday we went to Ambri to go on with touch and go and simulated engine failures and other abnormals.
My first impressions are that the 1940’s manuals are right: “if you can taxi the Mitchell, you can fly it”. But for taxi… I was sweating!!! 😡 😡
Next is Wednesday and Tuesday, Philippe is rejoining us to start his own training, so we will be 5 pilots for the Airshows.
The first will be “Yverdon” 2,3 Jully, with the official start of JAF Club.
Keep on looking to our web site: http://www.jaf.ch
More news to come.

nose art
That’s because we have a “press day” on the 9 June for the new nose art of our B-25 and for the creation of our new association: “Jet Alpine Fighter Club”, founded last week 🙂 🙂 . We would like to keep this new painting +- secret till the 9 :dev2: . But I’m sure that they were some photographer along the RWY in Sion this W/E who took pics of it !
Don’t worry, I will provide you with the best shots.
Look at this one in the mean time…

North American B-25J Mitchell « HB-RDE »
North American B-25J Mitchell « HB-RDE »
This North American B-25J has the constructor number 108-47662 and the USAAF serial number 45-881, where “45” means built in 1945. At the end of WWII it was converted into a trainer (TB-25N), and fitted with two additional students’ seats at the rear of the cockpit. It finished its Air Force career as a twin- engined trainer.
In 1958, it was removed from active service and stored at Davis Monthan AFB, AZ.
1958, the 13th of june, Maricopa Dust & Spray bought it from the American Government and gave it its first civilian registration: N9621C.
In September ‘59, James E. Dimmettee of Dallas Aero Service, TX, acquired and operated the plane for Texas Instruments as a flying platform until the end of 1960.
Subsequently it had the following private owners:
V.C. Arnspleger, Dallas, TX, de September 1961 – 1962.
C.M. Stephenson/Air Traders Inc, Miami, FL, 1962-1966.
Richard Lloyd, Miami, FL, 1966-1970.
Antonio Rodriguez, San Juan, Porto Rico, 1970-1972.
Uriel Bristol, St. Croix, 1972-1976.
Seagull Enterprises, Christiansted, 1976-1978.
And finally, after a first restoration in 1982, Harry S. Doan from Daytona Beach, FL, kept it airworthy. The current camouflage scheme dates from this period. The legend has it that the owner’s wife loved those colours!
The plane was then owned successively by World Jet Inc. (Fort Lauderdale) and Flying Eagles Inc, (Don Widington) and finally acquired by Franklin Devaux in 1991.
After an epic ferry flight, the Mitchell landed in Dijon-Longvic (France) as F-AZID and was operated by Lafayette Aviation for several years on the European Airshow circuit. It was totally restored, flight controls renewed, wings removed and checked and treated all over with anti-corrosion products.
After a period of inactivity, it has now been totally overhauled by “Edwards Brothers Aviation” and finally delivered to “Jet Alpine Fighter” who will run it from their home base Sion in Valais.
It is now registered in Swiss as HB-RDE.

B-25 COLORS
Yes, all suggestions for the colours scheme are welcome. 🙂
But you will understand that initially there are more important tasks than the new colours and that the decision for the final scheme will be kept top-secret till the very last moment. :diablo:
We promise: this plane needs to be seen. So she will not be kept secretly in a dark hangar. She will be displayed.
