Almost certainly cooling. The gear-compartment has no fire-fighting capability and that place is chokka-block with flammable things. I think i’m right in saying a 707 or DC-8 (something along those lines) crashed somewhere a good while back due to a fire starting in the gear bay after take-off. The aircraft was quickly in flames and they couldn’t even complete the circuit to get back to the airport.

No I don’t work for FR, yes I do know about aircraft performance characteristics given that I studied them for many years.

I say it because it is my opinion, you don’t have to like it, just like I despise RyanAir and MOL. That’s my choice.

You called him a clown though. Perhaps a better choice of words next time.

I have to disagree about the “extra fuel burn” I’m afraid, the amount of “fat people” on board who wouldn’t be negated by “slimmer” people is negligible, you’d have to have a plane load of them for it to make any significant difference. It is downright discriminatory.

The same way a few extra kilos of baggage get penalised? Perhaps we should all take as much luggage as possible as no doubt there will be someone with no luggage.

Airline seats are not sold down the right hand side first and then the left due to weight/balance issues. It is better for the aircraft’s perfromance that things are balanced as any extra weight or lack of balance about the c.o.g. has a negative effect.

I have nothing against larger people and I don’t think this idea should be brought into reality, however I was just pointing out that there is some rational behind it.

HAHAHAHA, no it won’t it’ll encourage them to fly with someone else

What a clown this chap is

I don’t understand why people always say this about O’Leary. The guy is quite clearly very intelligent and knows how to work the media and the public. Do I have to point how why? I might aswell.

RYANAIR – ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL AIRLINES EVER

As for this fat tax thing – You have to admit, it would make commercial/economical sense. More weight = more fuel burn after all. I don’t think FR would ever try and get this approved as it raises too many problems on moral grounds. This is a great publicity stunt and nothing more.

    So what are they buying?

    A name?

    Indeed. Similar to Pan Am.

James, its going to have new owners and a totally new concept. Its going to be a “normal fare” airline so to speak, not a low fares or budget. Therefore i doubt the rest of the model will follow similar lines

What was wrong with Zoom UK? It operated some of the more profitable and imaginative routes within the group, if anything i would rather Ltd. returned rather than Inc.!

Zoom never turned a profit, whether it be with a G or a C reg.

New guys just want to buy the brand, anything else will have nothing in common with the old Zoom.

The idea will fizzle out very quickly.

Absolutely, and reading back my original post now, I do apologise if I came over in that way.

Absolutely if the bird is ingested in the engine it is much more serious as we saw with the incident with EI-DYG the other month. But in the majority of cases there is no reason why it would be big news.

What gives you the right to be so cynical? I don’t think the original poster was blowing this out of proportion at all. Bird strikes are very serious issues, as we saw in the case of the US A320 the other day. However I don’t think the OP was asking if the GLA bird strike was making front page news. Perhaps he was just enquiring as to whether there was any damage to the aircraft, which is entirely possible and he is perfectly within his rights to ask without being persecuted for it. The matter would certainly have been taken seriously by the flight crew at the time.

I don’t think so.. EI is not playing in the partnership game here, they want to cash in on the London yields for themselves. Getting involved with another airline will undermine their business plan.

    Don’t be so sure…yet.

Fantastic shots!! TCX seem to be operating extra flights out of GLA at the mo, the LBA based a/c (G-VCED) positioned up to GLA yesterday morning to operate to TFS and back to LBA, and I believe our new based a/c (G-SUEW) to be doing the same tonight to operate to LPA and then back to LBA.

Yeh, a stupid amount of TCX traffic at GLA over Thursday (ACE)/Friday(TFS)/Saturday(PMI). There were 78 TCX departures from GLA on Friday and Saturday alone.

An excellent selection Kenny, in particular the GSM 738 and the VS engine/nose shot.
