or try any of these…

One I’m sure will help, its what I do and it works most of the time…;)
Sorry, I still need to get all this clear, are we saying that this is a standard type that was readily available to all aircraft manufacturers and that in this case it was altered (The back was cut down ) by Westland and metal framing was made to allow it to be fitted to the cockpit…
Now the important questions, are these “AS” seats all the same dimensions and who exactly made them and are there drawings left that we can get or can someone measure one for us to use to make a virtual replica…
Hmmm… I’m showing my ignorance here but what does the “AS” stand for… 😮
If you look at the port side of the seat as shown in the prototype picture above you can just make out where the rear of the seat ends… 😉
D’oh! Beat me to it Dave… Ha!
Ha!
I found this last night and thought the Whirly one was made from ally so didn’t post it to Matt…
Still not convinced as the Spit one has a full lenght back and our drawing has just the seat base and a split half back…
Take alook at the drawing below, I’ve coloured the section I think is the shape extent of the actual seat base the rest is ally based structure incasing the seat base as can be seen from the drawing there is no molded back to the seat as in the Spit…
Mike have you not had a look at one of the seat’s that still exist to solve this little problem?
Hi Mike…
Can’t help you I’m afraid, but can sympathize with the inconsistencies in the drawings.
Matt our CGI/CAD guru has started to come across this himself with the virtual Whirlwind.
Your lucky to have some drawings to work with as we have none apart from a single GA drawing of the pilots seat and a couple very poor quality, parcial view’s from the Pilots Notes… 🙁
Excellent work Mike…

Whirlwind Fighter Project
Hmmm… 😉
Thank you for that insight into the registration/donation issues, I’d be fibbing if I said people hadn’t raised this point before as to why we’d gone down that route…
I’ll see what I can do… 😉
Jerry, what sort of response did you get with your requests for info about Westland and the Whirly in the local rags then, just that one about the WTM would be quids in!
Stu…
Hi
Just a random thought, but when P6994 went to the states it was supposedly “checked out” by grummans for input into their XF5F skyrocket and F7F tigercat designs.
Might be worth it for you to contact Grummans, or who ever they are nowadays, to see if they have any info, at the worst it maybe just trials info ?
cheers
Jerry
Jerry
We’ve already got someone over in the states looking into it…
About the Wind Tunnel Model, can you remember anymore about who or what exactly they did at AW to be able to have it and why they had contacted you…
Stu…
TT
Thank you…
Hi Tony…
Yes please, I’d like a set with anything that might have been used on a Whirly… 😉
Stu…
Ain’t from a Whirly then…;)
