Re Engined Whirly…
Where did I hear something about using the Bristol Beauford engines… The Taurus 😮 As an alternative to those Pesky Peregrines
Taurus II:
Layout: Fourteen-cylinder, double-row radial engine with dual ignition
Medium Supercharged
Bore & Stroke: 5 by 5.625 in (127 by 142.9 mm)
Maximum Take-off Power: 1,010 bhp (753 kW) @ 3,225 rpm
Maximum Power for all-out level flight (5 min): 1,065 bhp (794 kW) @3,225 rpm at 5,000 ft (1,520 m)
Volume: 1,550 in³ (25.4 litres)
Bare Dry Weight to A.M. Schedule E.124/4: 1,300 lb (590 kg)
Nearly the same weight as the Peregrine 😉
Feasable?
Hmmm… Regarding the Whirlwind and the lack of ‘crossover’ between tanks, I spoke to Mr Fred Ballam of Westlands a couple of years ago now and this matter was brought up at the time. According to Fred it was’nt put in, simply because it was’nt asked for… Shocking lack of forthought, yes. But as he said there was’nt an awful lot of room to spare and it would have put the cost up and the aircrafts weight… Doh!
Makes you think how ever did we win the War…
MrBlueSky (or should I say ELO)
DK168 was transferred to 1663 Heavy Conversion unit and struck off charge on 22.11.1944. I would think that this was the result of an accident, as these older aircraft were flown really hard by inexperienced training crews.Hope this helps
Cheers

HP57, thank you for that 😉 It’s not for any special reason, only that it’s a picture that caught my eye and sort of left me ‘begging’ for more… For want of a better word.
I hope someone can shed some light as to what mission they were on when they lost that engine… 😉
Revisionist history…
Hmmm… Prime example, Miles M-52 v Bell X-1 the ‘all moving tail’ story…
Oh good… I thought you might not be able to download it from that site as I had trouble geting it there… 😉
Thats all I have on it… Enjoy
Go here for scans of the RotoDyne, the file is 3.8mb
I’ve got some info and 3d views but I can’t post them till tomorrow, so be patient and I will post some scans then… 😉
A lot of folk seem to distruss CGI… I am all for it, for it will let us see again things that will never be seen in real life… As an example take a look see at this…

If the film has CGI in this catagory I for one will love to go see it…
