    What bomb is that?

here’s another pic of the clusterbomb. it actually apeared on the net quite some months ago, but i chose not to post it then since there were no definate indications of its origin.

Surprising, China has develop two type of AVRAAM(PL-11B and PL-12)

the PL11 could just be a PRH missile.

a fantastic find! and the first i have seen of the PL12 on a J10, so this could purhaps mean that the PL11s seen on eariler J10 pics were just passive weapons.

    I don’t agree… taiwan’s former ‘president’ was Japanese.
At least his suspected father was… being in occupation during the birth of the taiwan’s former ‘president’ raised some questions as to his biological father. We have reason to believe that his mother who was an prostitute during the japanese occupation concieved of him with some japanese soldier. His studies in Japan also might have led to his Japanese influences.

and did all this come up before or after his remarks about japanese occupation?

KMD’s downfall was due to cruption but the irony was that the La fayette case was based on the taiwan’s former ‘president’ but no one dared to charge him and that includes the present president who needed his political support. sounds weird doesn’t it!

well i never said LDH was the sole cause, but his remarks did seriouse hurt to his party, which helped, or at the very least sped up the downfal of the KMD.

as for the La Fayettes, well LDH got off scot free because he used the oldest trick in the book – get everyone involved, that way everyone has a vested interest in keeping the truth from coming out and covering up as much as possible.

but thats more to do with ‘skill’ rather then his personal popularity.

lol, id like to see where this reporter gets some of his information.

“Taiwan, which, despite having been occupied by Japan from 1895 to 1945, maintains an empathy for the Japanese that is rare in Asia. Elderly Taiwanese, for instance, still show delight in Japanese language and culture. “

what utter BS! taiwan’s former ‘president’ was driven from office because of his infamous claims about japanese occupation being ‘good’ for taiwan, and that has played a great part in the downfall of the once all-powerful KMD party; the NGO movement for the reclaiming of the diaoyu islands is actually far more vocal in taiwan and HK compared to the mainland, and just a couple days ago, taiwan has criticised the japanese government’s take over of the above mentioned lighthouse, and stated that the diaoyu islands belong to the people on both sides of the (taiwan) strait. all in all, appearing to be ‘chummy’ with the japanese is political suicide for any politition in taiwan, and except for the few people born in japan, extremely few people on taiwan hold a better opinion of the japanese then anyone else in east asia.

japan’s move is geopolitical, plain and simple. there is no ‘helping a friendly neighbour’ spin to it as the auther seems to try to project, to gloss over such a blatent land grab and japan’s increasing assertiveness in world affairs.

Maybe that is the YJ-12 carry onboard 052C

doesnt look anything like the YJ12 model shown with a JH7A model, which had ramjets. it looks like a ‘fatted up’ C803, but it could just be a camera trick. will need a better sense of scale to be sure if it is a new missile type.

But without an international treaty violation it is no ones business except the Ukraines… in other words it is none of our or the US or anyone elses business.

I dont remembering nations like iraq (before they get invaded), syria and Iran (or india and pakistan for that matter) ever signing treaties assuring that they would never develop nuclear weapons, but look at all the crap they are getting for apparently trying.

the world is not a very fair place, and there are sh!t loads of hypracrits on every side, all playing to try and get the most for themselves. thats just life.

Obviously they won’t actually launch any of these weapons, except perhaps to test to see if their versions offer the same performance. I was referring to this class of weapon rather than the actual weapons themselves. Of course they will take on board the new technologies and ideas of these weapons, but I don’t think they will copy them exactly unless they already exactly suit their needs. (and as I don’t know their exact needs I cannot comment accuractely). They might want more range or they might settle for less range and a heavier warhead etc etc.

If they only ever had 6 then I doubt they would actually use them, but the basics are simply a low flying sub sonic drone which I am pretty sure the Iranians could replicate quite easily. It might not have an engine as reliable or as fuel efficient, the guidance might be made up from imported parts (I don’t know the level of Iranian electronics), but these weapons are quite old technology. I am sure if they wanted it they could mass produce conventional versions quite easily.

The engine in the Kh-55 is quite good, but it is certainly not Russia’s best. If they buy a few Kh-59MKs they could have even newer small turbojet engines. I am not sure which engine is used in the Kh-101 and Kh-102 but I would assume that it is newer and more fuel efficient than the model in the Kh-55.

well i think you are making it out to be alot easier then it really is. making a decent crusie missile is hard even if you got all the complete blue prints. this is mainly due to the fact that it needs many fields of a nation’s industry to have reached certain levels before you can make all the parts.

if it was as simlpe as getting your hands on an example, take it apart and copy all the different parts, everyone would be chunning these babies out like apple pies.

right now, i doubt iran has the ability to make all the parts needed in country, with the eletronics and engines being major potential stumbling blocks (based on the fact that iran still needs to licence produce chinese AShMs).

as such, i somehow doubt they will be able to quickly and easily make their own copy or versons of these missiles. and given that, they would most likely use these missiles as NBC weapons delivery systems to force a credable detterrant instead of wasting them on conventional strike.

what about the F-CK-1? its kinda like what the A50 fighter verson would be like. plus its operational already.

the only down side is that apparently its engines are not that responsive or powerful.

im not keen on the bison. while technically its got a BVR capacity, its small nose still means it would be at an disadvanatge in terms of BVR against anything thats got a real BVR capacity. either give the plane a proper sized radar for BVR, or just save the money and give it HMS and high off-broadside missiles. then at least the pilots can focus on getting to WVR range instead of wasting time trying to get a BVR pot-shot off.

In a more serious note, after the Korean War I thought North Korea was supposed to be the industrialise one with all their economic potentials, thanks to the vast amount of natural resources, but over time they blow it all on military? What a shame!!

After writing the previous posts, I’ve read a little bit about little Kim and I’ve got to say that he is spoiled, he even gone as far as kidnapping a South Korean film director when he was young! I think the idea of this guy having a 1-million men army is to protect his personnel kingdom rather then the whole of North Korea itself.

Kim Il Sung could’ve spank his son more often when he was alive!

what are you talking about? at the start of the korean war, NK had far better weapons then SK because the russians gave/left those weapons to kim’s daddy. whatever ‘industrial’ base NK might have had before the conflict was flattened by US carpet bombing. it was said during the war, an american bomber crew resorted to dropping their whole payload on a lone NK soilder on a moterbick because there was nothing else left to bomb. and that kind of bombing continued right to the end of the conflict.

becase the chinese didnt have the ability to conduct bombing, SK was able to be gradually rebuilt after the NK forces were driven back, and that development continued throughout the rest of the war without interruption.

after the war, SK continued to get vast sums of money and resources from the west, but NK didnt get that much since both china and russia didnt exactly have much to spear themsevles.

as for kim, well i think his daddy was far too busy keeping himself in power and making himself to be some kind of god to properly teach his son. not that he himself had much worth teaching either, so its probably just as well.

German AF pilots in MiG-29s had no problem to outmanouvre F-16s at first, before those learned the lessons and choose adequate tactics. 🙂
Every “defeat” brings you nearer to victory, when every “win” often do the opposite. A:A is a fluid business. 😉

aggressor (instructor)pilots flying obsolete planes ALWAYS whip the butts of the best of the new crop in state-of-the-art fighters at WVR combat simulations. that is a result of training and experience, not superior aircraft design.

the first encounters are usually the most telling. when the east german Mig29s first started excerising with USAF planes, both sets of pilots were at their peak level of training, and that training was dedicated to shooting down the guy they are now practicing with.

under these circumstances, if one side lost badly, then it is testimate to the effectiveness of the aircracft, training and doctorine of the other side. any subsequent ‘clashes’ just proves that the pilots that lost can learn, not a terribly rare trate in the business.

sure, the americans benefited vastly as a result of having Mig29s to practice against. but being able to execute well drilled manovers is quite a bit different from having the ability to quickly and effectively react to the unexpected charateristics of an unknow enemy. one should take care to make sure that practicing against ‘enemy’ fighter types do not become an end in itself, for it is trained flexability that is the most useful tool that a good pilot can have.

Both might want the missiles for the same reason the Russians are now refurbishing them to Kh-555 standard. With a terminal optical guidance and conventional warhead they give the Russians a very long range conventional strike capability that they have otherwise lacked. Able to be fired from air, land, sea and under the sea they are very useful weapons and are relatively cheap considering the threat they create to any potential opponents. With a simple box launcher and a pre-programmed target (world wide data available from Russian satellites) in the US or Israel could be launched from a container ship or even a small corvette… the box launchers thrown overboard after launch… if not seen there will be no evidence and a preprogrammed flight path with lots of doglegs and turns would easily obscure the launch position. Patriot and Arrow would have serious problems shooting down a ground hugger as they are optimised for high flying ballisitic missiles.

yeah, both iran and china (and pretty much everyone else in the world) would love to have KH555-class missiles. but neither country would be interested in using any of the missiles they ‘got’ in the way you described.

with an arsenal of only 6 missiles each, and with zero chance of imported resupplies, i somehow doubt either china or iran will be in any hurry shooting these babies off.

both will try to study the design of the missile first. but i think its only the chinese that have much of a chance to fully digest the technology and be able to apply it to their own weapons development to produce a chinese missile with similar or even better performance (if the stroy of the missile sale is real, then there appears to be possible links with a new chinese ALCM that was rumored to have recently been tested/feilded).

the iranians might deploy their missiles in the manner you described as a form of detterance IF they can successfully RE the missile or develop something similar based upon the KH55.

however, chances are the much more likely scenario would be that iran is thus far unable to RE the KH55, and so the missiles the supposidly have are far too valuable for just conventional strike. if they have a nuke programme, it would be geared to making a tactical nuclear weapon small enough to fit the KH55. that is their best hope of quickly forming a proper nuclear detterance against the US. and in the end, being able to force the americans to behave is far more worthwhile to iran’s leaders then to just blast 6 holes in important places in israel or the US.

What exactly is this? The disk looks like a small focal plane radar antenna that fits inside a missile.

cant see the pic, the link isnt working.

Its fantasies not fantacies Plawolf fellow.

oh well done, you get a gold star. like you never made a spelling mistake before.

in my experience, its only those that have nothing to say but still want to make a noise that go picking on such trivial things. grow up or shut up mate.

And I wouldnt say all that you just said. First because its a ridiculous generalization and second, any such comments get flamed from “aggressive members”.

yeah, you wouldnt say it cos you know you’d never get away with it.

as for flaming. lol where? if you cant even tell the difference between ppl taking apart and systematically rebutting the parts of your posts that is just BS compared to flaming, then you really shouldnt be here.

no-one has flamed you here, nor do i know of any of the members contributing here having flamed you elsewhere, so quit your whining and act like a man.

And what would you know about the J-10 not being in any Chinese GAO- have you seen it?

so what are you trying to say here? ‘have you seen the J10?’, or ‘have you not seen the J10 in a chinese GAO?’ ?

i went down to chengdu the last time i was back in china, but being on a tight timetable and being unluky, i had to leave again before i got to see one. but the plane definately exists, so there’s no big difference here whether i seen it in the air with my own eye or not, so i assume that was not what you meant.

as for the assumed question of ‘what i would know about the J10 not being in any chinese GAO’. you speak as if you have a copy about the J10. lets see it then.

do you even know what the GAO is?

the GAO is the government accountability office, its job is to report to the legislature, who hold’s the government purse strings in all ‘democracies’. if you havent noticed, china doesnt have a democracy or legislature (a proper one at least). there is not real public involvement in government decision making, so why would there be a chinese GAO report for public consumption?

lets at least try to think for ourselves once in a while, ok?
