Well if they really seek survival a single nuke and delivery weapon can guarantee it, no amount of fighters can. Fighters can only delay the inevitable.

    That’s plain stupid.

China and Taiwan are so interlinked that the chances that Taiwan could develop a nuclear bomb without China noticing are practically non-existent, and ironically, Taiwan trying to develop a nuke would be one of the very few things that will provoke China into invading.

Taiwan is hopelessly outmatched in any war with China and the odds will only swing more in China’s favor the further into the future we go.

Anyone that thinks a nuclear armed Iran is a good thing is bat$#t crazy.

And anyone who thinks like that is demonstrating nothing but brainless arrogance.

You’ve got an extremist regime, that sponsors terror groups, and meddles in other countries affairs every bit as much, as you all complain about other countries, oppresses its own people who by every indication are nowhere near the ideological stance of the leaders……

Sounds a lot like America and Israel but to name a few.

The more important question is- how many countries has Iran meddled in the affairs of, or sponsored terrorists in? You don’t have to do the dirty work yourself, to be fully culpable.

More important? By whose standard and what rational other then to try and single Iran out with a select set of arbitrary and illogical criteria?

When did America, Britain and Russia ever stop meddling in the affairs of others? How may coups have these countries sponsored and how many of these countries have directly financed and armed terrorist groups? But them these pillars of virtue and righteousness went even further then evil Iran when they needed to didn’t they?

How many times has Israel been attacked in the last 60yrs,

What kind of stupid illogic is that? Just because you were attacked in the past it gives you carte blanche to launch wars of aggression?

and since you brought it up- how many warheads does Israel have? At least if they’ve got them, they’ve demonstrated a great deal of restraint.
Do you think Iran, Syria, or groups that they support would act nearly as sensibly?

Well thats entirely down to personal opinion now isn’t it? Iran has chemical weapons, but when was the last time they used them?

Any sensible person, western or not should be able to see that a nuclear armed Iran, doesn’t make the middle east or the World a more safe and secure place.

Oh really? That just shows how close and indoctrinated your mind is.

What if after they got the bomb, Iran offered to fully, verifiably disarm in exchange for the same from Israel? Surely a middle east totally free of nuclear weapons is better then anyone having them?

When’s the last time Israel and Iran fought? What Israeli aggression is Iran trying to counter?

You are so pathetically transparent its laughable.

Israel is not threatening or hostile because they haven’t launched any attacks on Iran, yet Iran is a menace because even though they have not launched any attacks themselves, they ‘meddled’ with the internal affairs of others?

Such hypocrisy is starting to make the former Iraqi information minister sound reasonable.

Yes, of course Iran does not feel threatened at all, all those veiled and overt threats from Israel of military attacks on Iran is just a bit of banter and western support of anti-government protestors in Iran is not meddling and not intended to destabilize and weaken the government of Iran.

Have you even thought these arguments through yourself or did they just come straight from Fox?

Selling those to Iran is an irresponsible thing to do anyhow.

    Off topic and baseless.

How many countries has Iran attacked in that last 60 years? How many has Israel? How many nuclear warheads does Iran have? How many does Israel have?

Anyone not blinded by brainwashing or who has any semblance of objective opinion would be able to see the shameless doubt standards and arrogance of the west at play here.

The only true crime Iran has ever committed was to have the audacity to object when the CIA overthrew their democratically elected government and to seek a credible deterrence against Israeli aggression.

Chinese new naval task force leaves for Gulf of Aden

    http://news.xinhuanet.com/english2010/photo/2010-03/04/13197222_11n.jpg

A new Chinese naval task force set sail on Thursday morning from a military port in the south Hainan Island to replace the fourth batch of flotilla in the Gulf of Aden escorting merchant vessels.

The new flotilla consists of the navy’s missile destroyer DDG-168 Guangzhou, supply ship 887 Weishanhu and missile frigate FFG-568.

    Full Story

I’ve noticed that the latest PLAN deployments are starting to pack firepower like they intend to use it. Notice the rocket pods on that Z9. I have also seen pictures of machine gun pods being test fitting to Z9s preparing to ship on.

In addition, the naval special forces are deploying a disproportionately large number of type 88 sniper rifles and are using the larger cal RPD machine guns over the newer type 95 based ones.

Could this be a change in strategy?

The current stop, search, arrest and release policy is clearly fatally flawed with pirates coming back into circulation after a brief period of being bounced between governments and agencies who don’t want to be responsible for them and usually just end up letting them go as soon as they can.

Last time I checked, if you take up piracy, you make yourself fair game to the guns of any naval warship. Maybe its time those navies started to fully exercise those powers.

I know the argument about most of these ******s starting off as fishermen, but that doesn’t wash as feeling you have been victimized doesn’t give you justification to arm up and start hijacking ships and killing innocent crewmen.

Lets think of this cynically for a moment. What has any government got to loose by adopting a highly aggressive stance here? It actually matters little if you take out innocent somali fishermen because who will ever know? Where will the witnesses screaming the innocence of those killed? Its a big lonely ocean out there and if a naval captain says the boat he just sank as loaded with pirates, who can argue otherwise?

As long as you don’t make a major screw up and shoot innocent international shipping like the Indians did first day they rocked up, no one is going to give a crap about who you killed other then as a brief caption to a picture of smoke on the horizon.

Adopting such a stance will put the lives of hostages already held at risk, but not doing anything will only mean others go in and join them later with millions lost to these organised criminals in the meantime.

If you want this to stop, ever, then you need to be willing to make sacrifices.

Unless Argentina makes significant investments in their navy and air force, they have no hope of taking the falklands by force. Even if they do have the money, it may take the next decade for them to be in a position to even think about being able to take the island by force.

Hell, the current disparity in forces is such that at present, the Falklands have a greater chance at taking over Argentina then the reverse, which is a shocking state of affairs.

If the Argentineans really want the island back, their best bet will prob be to get some kind of joint development agreement signed with the British and start tapping the oil reserves for cash and use that money to fund their military modernization.

Yes we Indians are Scared . We are also growing not as fast as you guys (still second fastest growing) but we have access to western tech. As our GDP increases we will try to match your muscle. Lets see who will win Cold War 2. :diablo:

What idiocy. If India is so keen to start a new cold war against a country who’s foreign reserves is greater then India’s GDP and who’s growth rate India has never been able to even match, then more fool you.

And dependency on foreign technology is a hinderance as much as it is an advantage, but I guess the likes of you are too blinded by nationalism to see it. When the likes of America and China spends on defense, it boosts their domestic economy. When the likes of India spends on defense, it harms the local economy. Even if India is as rich as China, thats a reciepe for disaster.

As for the Gripen NG vs J 10B I think its pretty even, the J 10 should have more endurance while the Gripen with Meteor and Swash Plate AESA should be superior A2A.

The J10B uses AESA and a Chinese ramjet AAM is in development so thats a transcant advanatge at best.

Chinese supremacy over India in terms of arms will peak in this decade and will be on the vane after.

More blind idiocy and wet dreaming and typical of too many Indians, sadly.

Because India is also growing at incredible speed and the government has finally woken up to the PRC

    Nothing but blind hot air.

India might be growing rapidly, but it has never been able to even match Chinese growth in terms of percentage points or absolute value in modern history. How is that closing the gap in any way shape or form? At best that is limiting the speed China is opening up the gap.

Any schoolkid knows you don’t go pick a fight with someone who is bigger, stronger and more influential then you, especially when they comprehansively kicked your butt the last time you tried. China has little interest in India and India would do well to keep things that way and look to feeding and educating its starting millions instead of indulging in dillutions of grandure.

How credible is this excerpt from the article, really:

My money is on it being pure BS. Just look at the latest pictures of the carrier, the flight deck has sprouted a small village’s worth of temporary buildings. Nothing is taking off or landing with all that in the way.

Even if the deck was clear, what would be the point in that when the carrier is docked? How is that different in any way to marking a section of a normal runway and setting up arresting gear other then making the test significantly more dangerous to perform?

And also, since when has the varyag been named anything else?

That article is so full of holes its a wonder anyone could take it seriously.

Somebody please save this thread by posting new pictures. Funny how the ‘B’ model has just started flight testing and people are already crowning it a success.

Its even more amusing how some people can’t help trying to make every topic an opportunity to promote their own agenda regardless of how absurd it is to draw those conclusions from the facts at hand.

Its clear from the title that Loke has no idea what he is talking about since China has been selling jet fighters for decades now. His comment on baby food also shows his true colours as he obviously saw the scorn the LCA fanclub is getting at the LCA breaking into the world market thread and thought he’d do one for the J10, no doubt hoping for the same result.

And from some of the responses, it seems the usual village idiots have been itching for such an opportunity.

If anyone has ever wonder why it is that fewer and fewer people with actual military aviation knowledge is bothering to post on these forums any more, here is your answer.

We did agree except the last question only.

WS10 has matured and developed enough to give similar if not better performance the the latest Russian engines.

Can’t even read properly, why am I not surprised?

When have I said the WS10 has already matured? I said that the PLA might choose it over russian engines once it has matured and been developed enough to give similar if not better performance.

China got never the latest variant of the AL-31F since the early 90s. So not much to compare about that. Close to two decades later China has managed to built the WS-10 which is comparable to that early AL-31F in Russian service from the 80s. A great achievement for country closing in from a much lower level of technology. I can even agree, that the WS-10 will give similar performance to an engine created in the 70s and used from the 80s.
I did not read a single sentence, what better performance you had in mind. No data or serious source from you about that claim and I am not the one to be blamed for that.

Oh yes, more of your thinly veiled racism. ‘China cannot surpass Russia because China can only copy stuff and cannot innovate or make breakthroughs independently’. That’s all you are saying and its pathetic.

What is also pathetic is you making judgements when you clearly lack even the most basic knowledge about the WS10. Its not based on the AL31, its based, as many have already pointed out, one the CFM56 core which in turn is the basis for the American F110 series.

What more, the WS10 is a far more ambitious project then the early AL31 with increased thrust and a far longer life as well as better reliability seen from much higher hours before overhaul.

“if not better performance the the latest Russian engines.”
At first you have no idea about that to stay polite, because the newest Russian variants were never delivered to China and the one catching up can not be in the lead about that. With your jingoism you do China no favor, just the opposite.

Yes, more backdoor racism and willful disregard for basic common sense. Which pretty much says all there needs to be said about you. Just because China is behind now, they can never catch up because they will never get the newest russian stuff to copy. That’s the basis for your entire argument and its as shameful as it is pathetic.

In the aviation technology China has catched-up to the 70s to 80s in general. A formidable achievement the starting point in mind. Nothing more and nothing less.

An assessment based on ignorance, racism and self-dilutions.
