“With the 7 loading points and with at least 2 being reserved for fuel tanks and another 2 for the PL-8s and there of course is the center point which could go F-16 style and carry an ECM pod that leaves like two places for either BVR missiles or bombs. Its going to be interesting to see the J-10 carrying air to ground ordinance.”
well it could be that an F16 stype ECM pod could be broken down into two smaller pods that can be fixed to the rear two of the four small hardpoints.
but anyhow, i suspect that at the moment, the J10 is intended primarily to act as an air superiority fighter much like the Rafales at present. the J10B (twin seater) would most likely be used to create a more ground attack oriantated a/c, and more hardpoints could always be added to the wings or a tornado/typhoon style centre body quard hardpiont could be installed.
whats so ‘smart’ abt this smart HUD? cheers.
“Engaging targets in geostationary orbit is rather difficult… it is about 65,000km up to get those…”
difficult but by no means impossible. once u break out of the atomusphere, traveling great distances is no problem at all. the only problem is trying to target sth that far away.
what u say is true. however, given the speed at which the FC-1 project is finishing, i’d say that it is likely that CAC has given up hope of being able to market the J10 for some time to come, and so are concentrating on marketing the FC-1 instead.
do remeber that CAC make both the J10 and the FC-1, which do compete with each other on the international market to some extent. it is likely that the j10 department within CAC is deeply unhappy with the statous quo and are doing all they can to get the J10 unvailed so they can be credited for what they were able to accomplish and start marketing the plane to make $$$.
on the other hand, the FC-1 department must be pretty happy with the J10 being labeled ‘off limits’, and may try to use their influence to make sure things stay that way.
ultimately, CAC itself does not really care if it is the J10 that is sold or the FC-1 provided that they make money out of it.
if the FC-1 doesnt do well on the market, then it increases the likihood that the J10 will be make available as CAC bosses start to really push to get to make money from the plane. however, if the FC-1 does well, then its more likely that the J10 will remain a ‘secret’ for many years to come, as CAC bosses have better things to do then to push the government.
the point is chinese ABFs arent like western AFBs, thats why the PLAAF wants the J10s to stay in china.
just to add:
if the J10 is sold to the PAF, its radar would most likely be an upgradaed verson of the radar for the FC-1 to help cut down on maintanence problems and costs.
reasons that the PLAAF might not want the J10 in pakistan is because of fear that the US etc might be able to get its thermal details and so be able to programme the plane into the library of the new gen AAMs with digital sensor heads; the US etc may also be able to get a look at any composits used on the plane to cut down on RCS, which will have its own implications and remifications for the PLAAF (of especail importance is that it is almost a given that whatever the US knows abt the PLAAF will be passed onto taiwan).
well i dont think that would be neccessary as PAF prefers western avionics anyways (the radar PAF pics would probably be sent to china for SD-10 intergrations at some point).
i think the PLAAF is more concerned abt the US etc getting to know the flight charateristics of the plane and being able to simulate it in adversary training.
thats just for starters. if u dont like it, do better urself.

the PAF most likely wants it. but the PLAAF dont want CAC to sell it cos the americans and indians and maybe even taiwanese might be able to get performance data from pakistan; CAC doesnt want to sell it cos it would compete with the FC-1/JF17.
however, PAF may get them as a result of political pressure from beijing. but even if that happens, its more like a one-off exception as opposed to the beinging of J10s being pumped onto the world market (thats what the FC-1 is for.;) ) so there is still no need to reveal it as there’s no point in marketing sth u dont want to sell.
given the power of the F22, would it still be deployed in such large squardens?
if it was up to me, i’d be more happy opperating F22s in 10 ship squardens and 30/40 ship wings. that would give u 5~7 wings and spares for training and all that. which would offer u MUCH greater flexability when deploying these birds.
well it would really depends on what is at stake. if the US-sino war was abt the US trying to invade china or vise versa, then it would almost certainly go nuclear.
however, a much more likely scenario would be the US and china having a bash at each other over taiwan. in which case a all out nuclear war would seem very unlikely.
the US ‘threats’ abt using nuclear weapons was most likely designed more as a detterrent then an actualy statement of principles. if someone none-nuclear like NK started ‘offing’ US sats, then the US might pop a couple nukes (small yeild) on fairly isolated military bases to show they mean business. but if china started taking out US sats, then the US would be unlikely to nuke china as the inevatable result would be a chinese nuclear counter attack and WWIII. (similar if russia started taking out US sats).
in these cases, the most likely US responce would be to take out chinese sats and maybe use B2s to take out the launch site or ground based laser used to take out US sats and call it even.
the general US thinking is that it is very unlikely the US would go to war with a nuclear power. and also, almost all nuclear powers have very large and expensive sat networks, so it would be unlikely that a nuclear power would attack US sats. if a nuclear power does attack US sats, then the US destroying their sats would be punishment enough without having to go nuclear.
i think they should quadruple the tax on cigerttes and use the money to build more hospitals for ppl who get lung desease from passive smoking.

“# MAJOR ATTACK: Attack on U.S. strategic assets on a large scale. Only a major power could do that. And no major power would mess with Uncle Sam unless they are serious about it and want to destroy the U.S. That would mean (all out) nuclear war. Ok?”
not really. if the US is already in a conventional war with, say, china, then china might knock out the entire US sat network for the loss of their own sats. but that will not neccessarily lead to all out nuclear war between the two.
