“I have seen a number of US flags burned in France over the years by any number of jabbering popinjays shouting anti- US slogans. You would argue they have the right and they do and so would most Americans who normally just shrug it off. Your outrage over using the Tricolour as a prop at a WWF match isn’t believable. “

there’s world of difference between some frustrated individuals defacing the flags of other nations on the streets and ‘cerleberities’ doing the same thing live on stage in front of thousands if not millions of viewers.

    a) the guys ripping up flags in the streets arent doing it for finacial gain.

    b) these guys are not ‘idealised’ by thousands of kids, and children are not likely to go burning or ripping up flags cos they saw it on the 9 o’clock news but are far more likely to imiate the actions of their favourate ‘wrestlers’, and that might affect many of the kids for the rest of their lives.

“Lets face it, if the WTC image was used in a Democratic ad, we wouldn’t be discussing it here.”

so everyone who’s offended by bush trying to dig political capital out of the ashes of 9/11 are democrates now are we? GWB certaintly doesnt hope so.

ah, but a problem would be when exact does an unborn child become ‘alive’? the same argument has been raging for years on the aborsion laws with no real result.

the law sounds good and fair, but will be very difficult to implement in real life.:(

“Since Q5, J6 and J7 are going to be history I doubt that China will lean on J11 and J10 only. “

the j6s are all but gone and many of the older J7s are also being retired. however, the J7s are still being produced, and these new a/c will be in service for quite some time. there is also the J8s.

the PLAAF is to have at least 300 flankers and 300 j10s, that’s alot of fighters. the J7s and J8s can boost the numbers.

as for ground attack and CAS, the MKK, JH7 and J10s would be much better at the kind of CAS missions the USN’s F18 conducts then the FC-1, and none of the above planes can directly replace the Q5 so i dont see any advantage in having the FC-1 in PLAAF service.

“Maybe J10 is more high tech this moment but it is built earlier and there are still a lot of western avionics to get that are better then J10 avionics. I hve been discussing it before that a larger radar is not that important these days. Gripen showed how to use ground or other radars in one picture and without using own radar means less noise… And since both will have SD10…”

the FC-1’s reliance on imported avionics may be part of the reason why the PLAAF dont like it, as the supply of replacements and spare parts can be easily cut off in times of war when they are needed the most, not to meantion a certain embargo on military imports that would prevent any advance western avionics being sold for FC-1s for the PLAAF.

even if the PLAAF can import superior avionics for the FC-1, what makes u so sure they wont just use them to upgrade the J10s and j11s instead?

damn! late again.:( most of the points have already been made by others.

but i’d just like to add a bit of my own opinion abt the PLAAF and FC-1. i personally think the FC-1 is a really good bird, and certainly way better then any indiginous chinese fighter currently in service. however, the main reason the PLAAF dont really want it is because its still inferior to the J10 and J11 desipte the FC-1’s many plus points.

although technically the PLAAF dont have to pay for the FC-1s, the money will have to be diverted from somewhere, and chances are that money would have been earmarked for the PLAAF anyways. so in a way, the PLAAF still has to pay for them, and they’d rather spend that money on more J10s and J11s or on simulaters etc.
