IMO its J-11B which we all know is flying with the WS-10A. You have not provided any eveidence that the J-10 is flying with the WS-10A. I do however agree with tphuang, no more AL-31FN series engine have been ordered (although we do know that AL-31FM1’s with TVC have been ordered for the J-10) so it is likely that the J-10 will fly with the WS-10A soon.
The WS10A has only recently been certified. Alot more tests and mods would likely have to be done to it before it becomes a mature engine. Only after that will extras like TVC come into play. That will take time.
It would seem unlikely for the PLAAF to either take a backwards step and get more non-TVC J10s after the existing batch of FM1s have been used up or to stop pruchasing more J10s until a TVC WS10A becomes available. That would mean that CAC will likely have to continue to purchase FM1s until a domestic alternative becomes available. Just how many engines are purchased would depend on how long its takes for a TVC WS10A to be ready.
so how do you explain the different angle and the crude pixel haze around the J-10 if its only ‘high lighted’??
There is no ‘standard’ angle for a plane to take off, as for the ‘pixel haze’, well look hard enough and you’ll get the hint of one around that J11 as well. It sometimes happens.
Something you are not seeing is the heat distortion under the J11. Its too far ahead to be caused by the J11’s own engines, and the image is crystal clear in front of it, so its not caused by weather conditions. Ergo, another plane should be right about where the J10 is in that shot. The lighting is also consistent, and most importantly, there is zero need for the PLA to supply PSed pics to the official state mouthpeice news agency when they got real pics a plenty.
Am I correct in saying that there are 5 bombs being carried by 1006? 2 under the forward fuselage, on under the rear fuselage and one under each wing?
Six actually. If you look really hard, you can make out the fins of the bomb of the other side of the rear fuselage just beyound the centreline tank.
Quite interesting two very clear pictures of the no. 1004 prototype and the 1006 with and without the IFR-probe …. here are more from 1006 with bombs !
PS: CAn anyone explain, why everytime the PL-8’s were errased !
Deino
Maybe the people at the Press core thought the big red training rounds spoilt the overall effect? Or purhaps the planes were carrying something else that the censors didn’t want shown, maybe PL12s?
Deino, that first picture of ‘1006’ with the bombs is an important one. That is the first clear picture of the rear fuselage hardpoint being used as far as I recall.
Beaten to it! I think the second pic is also of the same bird in the same layout but from a different angle. It would give a good indication of where the rear fuselage hardpints are located if I’m not mistaken.
Has no-one noticed that this is probably the worlds worst Photoshopped image?
(not that it detracts from the others though)
Don’t be so sure that its is PSed. The flanker in the background is out of focus because of the heated jetwash from the engine of the J10 and it also a bit further out. It would look more like a PS job if both were perfectly in focus. Besides, that pic has the Xinhua news agency watermark, meaning that those pics came straight from the Chinese government and military. If they wanted a posy picture that has both the J10 and J11 in some dramatic pose to woo the masses, then they got it. Zero need to PS.
I have said it before and I will say it again, its a waste of time to reply yo star, and replying to him will only encourage him to pump out more nonsense.
My last post was directed at GD, I’m sorry if somebody got all excited because they misunderstood.
Is the WZ10 a license manufactured Tiger ? or Rovialk or something?
Are they still trying to get western tech for it?
Here we go again. Everytime a new Chinese design is reveiled some people always want to think its a copy of something else.
Look up the larger, more detailed pics of the WZ10 and you will find many major design differences from any existing attack helo.
The WZ10 has been in development for at least a decade and is not a licence copy or knock off of anything else.
There were reports years back that Eurocopter is supplying the main transmission for the WZ10, and may well have also made other contributions to the project. But such involvement does not make the WZ10 a Tiger varient.
I was talking about th superbug V J10. Even su30+ would struggle against the superbug because of the shorter range of the R77 compared to latest blk AMRAAMs. Superbug might have slightly shorter detection range, but its still far more then enough for it to be able to use the full range envolope of its AMRAAMs against designs like the flanker.
BVR should go to the superbug, but thats more down to the missile then the radar. Although if the reported survice ceiling of 20km is true for the J10, then the superbug will struggle to match the J10 for reached.
When it gets to WVR, the superbug will probably have a hard time even with Aim9X. Don’t forget that the J10 has HMS guided IRAAMs as well, and with a design optimised for both low and high speed handling, the J10 should be able to ask questions the superbug will struggle to answer, specially in multi-ship furballs. Add in the prospect of TVC equiped J10s (which might be combat ready be the time the RAAF gets its superbugs) and WVR looks pretty grim for the superbug.
The superbug should win more then it looses, but it will be a close run thing, and not a whitewash as some here seem to think.
Anyone here playing Battlefield2?? If we use that game to settle the scores
between the different fighters JSF, J-10, F-18, the J-10 would be superior:D
I seriously doubt the developers of that game (as good as it is) had any inside scoop on the performance specs of top secret Chinese fighters that I doubt even the pentagon knows for sure.
‘Swing-role’ is just a fancy salespitch term dreamed up by sales people to hype a moderate improvement over established multi-role radar and avionics packages that offers little substantive advanatges in real combat scenarios.
Existing multi-role radars can use BVRAAMs just as well as ‘swing role’ radars, and being ‘swing role’ doesn’t count for crap in a dogfight. Established multi-role radars can also conduct A-A and A-G in a single mission. The question is why anyone would want to. If you haven’t won air superiority, having fully loaded strike packages wondering around without escort is just asking for trouble, and if you have already won air superiority, the odd enemy boggies that might pop up sometimes will only be an annoyance, and under such consitions, even BVRAAM armed dedicated strikers would be able to take them out with ease.
Its not just the Frence that fly frence planes, and the majority of cases where Frence made planes have been meantioned was done so under the context of them being operated by other air forces or when they are leading runnings in major contracts.
Well as for the J-10 all I can say is that it is a very interesting plane.
Sadly alot of people have missed something really important in one of the pics, please allow me:
What the devil is the helo in the back ground?
That pic cropped up months ago. 😉
Its the WZ10 attack helo in the background, and since the pic first came to light, more detailed pics of the WZ10 have also surfaced, most of which you can find in this thread.
As I said before, J-10 has retractable IFR. It’s interesting that they showed J-10s dropping bombs, must be just for demonstration purposes.
Detachable you mean? On the close up of the J10 line from the right, there is no evidence of a compartment for a retractable IFR probe. But there does seem to be a neat little hole just about where you expect one to be. Looks like its of a similar design to those used on the J8s (which would make sense) and is a fixed detachable IFR probe.
