Eastern Airlines N305EA. Used as a demonstrator and was painted in Court Line colours prior to attending Farnborough 1972, where it wore the BEA titles in the photo.

I saw it in Court Line titles at Luton and I think, at the time, it was the largest aircraft ever to fly into the airport.

I think that the Court line livery would still stand on its own today, but wether or not it would look just as good on an A320 or 737…..I’m not so sure.

BTW, if you don’t already know, here is a very good book all about the history of Court, the people, and the planes. Its called ‘Colours in the Sky’ It used to crop up occasionally on ebay, and fetch silly money. Its a fascinating story, and even has a good history of Autair, before they ‘morphed’ into Court Line. If you’ve an interest in the airline, grab a copy, its cracking read, and the pics aren’t bad either:)

Thanks for the tip. As a youngish lad I used to visit Luton Airport a lot and remember well Autair becoming Court Line. I was lucky to see the last of the Autair fleet flying (Ambassadors, BAC 1-11 200/300??) before the change to the larger 1-11’s and ultimately 2 x TriStars.

Somewhere have the flight guide from a flight with them in 1972 and it makes a big thing of their ‘holiday colours’ – which featured on their express coaches too.

Although it wouldn’t be authentic, I’ve often wondered about the British Airways 1-11 at Duxford being repainted in Court colours!

Just thinking about that Court Line interior as one of the big selling points of the Court / Clarksons package was their ‘seat back’ catering. IIRC there was two compartments (outbound / inbound) in the back of each seat and passengers could serve themselves! Presumably the cabin crew where then left free to serve drinks / sell Duty Free etc.

Is that right or is my memory playing tricks again?

[QUOTE=VeeOne;1894263]Court Line Pink One Eleven jet is pretty on the outside…

Ah, Halcyon Bay, the first jet powered airliner I ever flew on, happy (if noisy) days 🙂

I flew back from Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific on a very light loaded 747 (about 70 passengers) a few years ago. All economy passengers were moved into the central section of the cabin. The cabin crew said it was for weight distribution but I think it was probably easier for them to serve passengers too.

Excellent! I only saw them from a distance but the Spitfire did sound, should we say, distinctive!

Another shot from Luton, this time Vickers Vanguard G-AYFN of Invicta Airlines. Which airline used this colour scheme?

    Hi all

Yes the BMA 707 is at East midlands. The photo was taken from a grass bank which was to the right (looking from the car park) of the Terminal building. I must have spent hundreds of hours sat in that same spot when I was a kid.

I would date it as mid 1970’s at a guess, I stopped sitting there in 1976, when I moved the other side of the fence and trained as an aircraft fitter at Field’s. I then spent as many hours the other side on Argosy’s, Herald’s and Viscount’s.

I loved that old BMA livery, and still think it was one of the best on the 707 and One- Eleven.

    Great days.

Ah, thanks for that. The image was taken off of a slide and was one of my Dad’s, taken, no doubt, on some dodgy Russian camera (probably his trusty Zenit-E). I’m not sure what he was doing at EMA but as he was a bit of a master of getting the cheapest package holiday possible (irrespective of airport) no doubt he was off somewhere sunny!

[QUOTE=longshot;1870703]This is probably 1969,could even be the delivery year 1968 for ‘VRL as it has the original build short length engine nacelles Boeing had to lengthen at their cost

Thats interesting. Am I right in saying that Britannia were the first airline in Europe to be equipped with 737’s?

I did like the old Britannia Airways colour scheme, very smart. I flew to Palma on G-AVRL in June, 1971, my first flight in a pure jet!

Funny that. I flew to Palma on G-AVRL to Palma myself in July 1971
