I really fail to see how this new layout is an improvement on the old format.
We did lose a very special person. We lost bernard.
The cancellation of the RAF P322 put a huge workload back onto lockheed. The P-38G-15-LO models are some of that order. You will find on many emgineering drawings that many cover the earlier G models up to -10, but do not apply to the -15. Incorporating the P322 back into P-38 production created two models G-15 and F-15 (I think) which carry multiple differences to previous F & G models. Interesting the extent of the workload created and yet the RAF hardly touched them.
We already have a thread for this topic. Please don’t start another one.
There you go, my rant wasn’t so bad after all.
I’ve given up editing my posts from my mobile. Every time I select edit, it deletes my post.
I don’t think my views are in line with the majority of forum members on this topic. Governments have an obligation to their servicemembers to give them a proper burial. Especially if they know where the servicemembers remains lie. Wartime aircraft crashsites are not sacred ground once the servicemembers remains have been removed. There is nothing on a Consolidated B-24 Bomber that I would consider a “Treasure Trove” . Goverments have an obligation to remove and dispose of ordinance. Private collectors play an important role in preserving vintage aeroplanes. Many members of the public with no intetest in old aeroplanes, save vintage aircraft components because of a perceived value of those parts. Without private collectors that perception of value would not exist. Governments that don’t recover and bury their dead servicemembers, that don’t provide adequate funding to museums to honor and promote those sacrifices, have no right to interfere with private collectors who are trying to cover their governments shortfalls.
Just my rant for the day.
Dave’s (RPM.FF.TGT…) Website is actually a damn good read. He’s put an enourmous amount of work into the research and paid alot of money out of his own pocket to travel to Papua New Guinea ( multiple trips) to search for the missing Lockheed. I strongly recommend you take a good look at his website.
If your government know the remains are in the ground, why don’t they recover them and give them the proper military buriel to which they are entitled to (and rightly deserve). Together with a memorial marker for the community to remember them and honor their sacrifice.
Just exactly what do the diggers hope to gain, and the UK Government think they are losing?
Innocent till proven guilty. Wouldn’t all the dambuster’s tailwheels have to be accounted for in order to prove that it isn’t?
One of the professional pilot forums I frequent has a highlighted notice at the head of the page which states posters can be held legally responsible for their posts and that the forum owner can be made to hand over forum members details. I believe the notice went up after defamation action over a posters comments. Perhaps keypu lishing should have a similar notice to users.
Many years ago I had a professional ebayer shut down, and banned from ebay. He had used many excuses for a delay in sending the item and eventually he sent me a message saying he had my money and had no intention of shipping the item. I showed the messages to ebay and he was removed.
HOWEVER, within a couple of weeks he was back on ebay with a different seller name and a feed back of zero. So, ultimately, ebay doesn’t care.
As I said, this was years ago. Today their automated dispute settlement will just waste your time, antagonize you and give you no real satisfaction.
Very well written Malcom Mckay and very true. All that I will add is that the accused and more likely their (often no win no pay ) solicitor will usually do an asset search first to make sure your worth pursuing Which is generally why assets (warbirds included) are not held outright in the owners names.
