If its in the Weyers 2005/2007 I can scan it tomorrow. What page, Golly?
Are we talking second hand Flanker-B/Cs, or newly built machines like the Su-27SKM?
I concur. It wouldn’t have taken long time for more NATO nations to intervene, especially more of the RAF fleet, Italy, Norway and even the French. Then again, so would the Soviet Union do: More planes from most of the other districts.
Therefore it is impossible to decide the outcome of this battle, especially since we don’t have any specific scenario provided.
Hi, I’m sorry to breath new life into this thread, but here goes:
I read in Yefim Gordon’s “Russian Air Power” (p.62) that the Russian Air Force “by early 1992 there were around twenty-five [A-50s] in service in total, altough only about ten aircraft remain airworthy”.
Okey, judging out of this it seems that the Russians have 10 Mainstays in service (the book is from 2001, though) of the total of 26 beeing built (including prototypes).
Its logical that they kept all the 4-5 A-50U Mainstay-Bs in service, and phased out most of the Mainstay-A.
Now, my question is. Where are those 10 planes stationed to cover large parts of the country?
Are they stationed on their own bases, with other Air Defence units, or with Candid units (to ease the maintainence)?
wow…nice!
Looks way too much of an PS job.
Damn.
I see it’s a missile who shot it down. Are the insurgents down there equipped with Igla/Strela/Stinger, or did they get a lucky shot with an RPG?
How many British choppers have been lost down there now?
Here is some more pics of the Mainstay.
Anyone got more of the Maxdome?
First and second is an A-50U Mainstay-B, third is an A-50 Mainstay-A beeing escorted by two Su-27UB/Su-30s, and fourth is an “Aircraft 976” Mainstay-C parked on airshow display.
Anyone have interception pics of a Moss or a Mainstay?
I’ve noticed that alot of (former) Air Defence aviation planes like the MiG-31 uses Blue ID numbers. Coincidence?
Also, on the Su-33 Flanker-Ds, it seems that all prototypes (T10K-1 – T10K-9) have Blue ID numbers, while all regular production models have Red ID numbers.
For example, the ‘109 Blue’ is the T10K-9, while ’82 Red’ is a production T10K.
Awww…
It’s always sad to hear about aviation related accidents, and this time it was 4 planes on the same time. Looks like Armenia was hit hard…too bad to loose much of their expensive Western fleet.
Didn’t Russia sell a A-50I to China, and has now been redesigned KJ-2000 since China modified it with their own radar?
Thank you very much!
Thats the first ‘Mail’ I’ve seen beeing intrecepted. That Skyhawk is from a USN carrier, right?
The only fighter I can think of with a toilet is the Su-34 (maybe the Su-33UB too?). The B-1B has a small chemical toilet in the floor back between the backseaters too.
I belive the hump behind the cockpitarea on the Su-27KUB is smaller than on the Fullback. And therefore, the cockpit is most likely smaller.
I compiled this list of all known Mainstays (pluss the Chinese relative) with the help of Yefim Gordon’s “Red Star Volume 23: Soviet/Russian AWACS Aircraft”.
Can anyone help me fill in the blanks, or correct me if something is wrong?
😮
