If they’re so frickin’ brilliant why don’t 95% of the world’s computers run on Chinese software and processors? Where’s the dealer where I can purchase a Chinese car (assuming anybody would want one)? Where’s the Chinese competitor to Boeing? What was the last world class item the Chinese DESIGNED? Any third world country can MAKE something if someone shows them how. The last CPU I bought that it mattered where it was made was made in COSTA RICA for God’s sake. I doubt they’ll be conquering the world anytime soon.

No doubts the Chinese still have a long way to go before they are anywhere near America or Europe in almost all aspects.

But really to compare China to America now, is almost like comparing Great Britain to America back in 1706! One is going to be the World’s Greatest Naval Power, while the other is still a developing colony. I suppose comparing Spain to England back in the 1600s would draw similarities. And certainly if u compare China to Spain in the 1400s, u would also see the similarities.

So i suppose we really shouldn’t go into that direction… we should focus on the thread topic itself.

Israel was in 1980 like China licensing aircraft and deriving aircraft, both could not turn the J-10 program into a real operational aircraft because both lacked an Engine.

Lavi and J-10 are 2 different aircrafts, whether they have any links or not.

Don’t worry, many people on forums here and elsewhere are numerically challenged.

I hate to tell you but the Super Hornet, Typhoon, Rafale, and Super Flanker are already obsolete let alone 20 years from now! :diablo:

These machines are hardly obsolete! Some components they have or the systems they employ are still considered state-of-the-art

Yes I know they will probably loose 9 out of 10 times in a BVR fight against the mighty Raptor, but in an all out war there are at least a large portion of the fight will be in WVR… and those that are mentioned are hardly obsolete in this area…

Those aircrafts also have state-of-the-art strike capabilities…

Finally decided on my favorite shot… perhaps its just the no.4 favorite on my list, but I just like the naval action in this shot… I would put a Rafale pic instead if there is one as good as this…

Its size is relatively comparable to a F-15 now. I was wondering how does the F/A-18E/F compares with say the latest version of F-15E+/K/SG…?

Avionically speaking they should be pretty close as both are equipped with AESA and some form of sensor fusion should be in place. The number of types of weapons they can carry should be pretty close too. Whats left are other flight performances to be compared.

Since I am not from US but from Europe, there is no superiority complex… :p

wow… so u are telling me that statement of urs came right out of thin air… i thought u are just being patriotic… :p

I dun think Rafale will have development and budget problem. France will continue with the project as Rafale itself is replacing virtually all, if not all, its aircraft type… so making this one plane as advance as possible is not a stretch for France’s requirements. Any exports are just plus points.

But this Norwegian competition is truely featuring all fighter types that are the most advance offering the world currently has, with the exception of Raptor. Its truely the most competitive fighter evaluation to date!

One thing to note though, with the Rafale down, BAe has already won this competition!

Its equivalent (:p) in the EF would be the DASS, but to compare it with the ALR 94 would be a joke.

Why would the comparison be a joke? Are u an Electrical and Electronic Engineer that is certified for Avionics system design and happens to know all the System Modules, Design, Integration, Software, Firmware and Hardware involved in both equipments?

If not, then making such a statement itself is a joke…

Superiority Complex is such a laughable thing… :diablo:

F-35 enroute to a target has minimal RF emissions as part of its design:
    >IFF transponder – normally turned off, on for traffic management over friendly territory
    >missile approach warning system – 360 degree IR imaging through DAS
    >radar altimeter – typically turned off, also has an LPI mode, 3D nav via GPS is normal
    >voice comms – typically not used except near friendly airbase, also has an LPI mode
    >datalinks – compressed burst transmission using LPI mode (if ORCLE can be made to work, laser DL/Comms will be virtually undetectible)
    >fire control radar – mainly used in recieve mode, can be used in LPI mode to determine target coordinates, can be used for electronic attack

There are a couple orders of magnitude difference in total radiated RF energy when comparing gen 4 and gen 5 jets.

All these that u have mentioned are pretty achieveable for virtually any aircraft, especially 4.5 gen ones, where they are designed from the start to be able to incorporate “smart skins”, just like F-35.

And u probably can bet on the fact that by the time F-35 have its IOC, Typhoon and Rafale would have more than matured on these tech… however F-35 still have the advantage of all-aspect stealth

What remains to be seen are the cost of one such jet…

As much as I love the European birds I kinda disagree with Typhoon winning the T/W contest.

I got my information from an aviation book about modern fighters. And also I believe that is more or less a common knowledge that Typhoon has very good TWR performance. I believe u can easily find information about the TWR of EJ200 on the web and it clearly shows a superior TWR, thus contributing to the overall TWR of the plane.

This is also one of the reason why Typhoon has the capability of supercruise other than the fact that it has a clean aerodynamics…
