Very very nice Nick!
Great pics, nice to visit Old Warden again!
Thanks.
It was certainly a “people-event”. Very openly and friendly. Could get very close to the aircrafts as well, and people behaved very well too from what I could see.
Must say I took those pictures of the boy and Mr. Spink with mixed feelings! Jealousy and all of that! 😀
Some nice shots there, certainly captured the atmosphere of the day for me.

I’m no expert on WW1 aviation but I do know that providing he didn’t go on to serve past the mid 1920’s your relative’s service record will be held by the National Archives on open view. This should give you all the detail you are seeking. I THINK you can order a copy electronically from their internet site.
I’ve done this recently, looking up my Grandfather’s records and he also served in the RFC.
You can download a copy of his Medal Record at a cost of £2.00 which will give you an overview of his entry into the service, theatre of ops. and rank attained.
Best of luck!
Great video, really well done!!
Fantastic job, a credit to everyone concerned!
Hope to see it in Suffolk skies later this year……
Well, it did come from a very reputable place……;)
Certainly did!
I think they mean Hollywood 10 pin bowling in Basildon where the people down south live !!!
🙂 It’s a bit of a Hardwick ” in” joke but you’re not far off!
Since making the video I have been approached by a number of Hollywood Producers looking for Chris’ phone number.
Seriously thanks to everyone for their help in making the clip. Except for the man in the white shorts….. get out of my shot!
Special thanks to the creepy crawly wrangler who provided the earwig to crawl around on the lens of the inset camera (bottom left in the takeoff sequence).
Nik
Before Yak-11 Fan gets tempted away by the bright lights of Hollywood (!?!), here’s a shot from Saturday’s bimble around over the Suffolk Coast…
Might have to come up at the weekend and see what life is like in the north then…..
Oi you lot, no War of the Roses now….:)
Great shots of the Harvard!! Bloke in the auster looks scared though!!
So would you with 5 gallons of Avgas in your lap! ( Joke….haha..)
Darren
Your wonderful photos have been a pleasure to us for a while, a unique trip that you fully deserve, and our rewards were some breathtaking photographs.
I hope that these may get into the media, I’m ashamed at the lack of coverage that this event has received over here, everyone seems to have been obsessed with Wimbledon and the Grand Prix over the weekend.
The fact that this aircraft has been brought over here, not only for our pleasure, but to honour those that died in order that I could write this or even have the freedom to critisize that ‘Damn Yank Hinton’ for coming over here and taking over one of our a/c, is quite an achievement that should be told to everyone, not just our lot on the Forum.
Good for you, I look forward to having a good look round LB over the weekend, perhaps our local media at least will publisise the event at the expense of some crass article on pig farming in Halesworth, but I doubt it, they obviously know what the general public are really interested in, or do they.I would have loved to have gone to DX today but my dog is very ill, madam has taken her to the vets, she may not return.
And what’s wrong with pig farming in Halesworth?
At Duxford today the public were given the chance to go inside the Belle for £3. Possibly the most poignant and thought provoking £3 that i have ever spent! Being inside such a superb machine with dummy machine guns and bombs in the racks certainly gives you a good idea of what one was like inside when operational. I already have the upmost respect for those that fought so bravely in the air (and on the ground) but the relatively cramped conditions inside, freezing cold and being shot at with every instance puts these guys up there with the best.
A visiting wartime Lanc pilot was also inside Belle at the same time as myself and he commented on how glad he was that the RAF was bombing mostly at night, unlike the yanks who during the day could see the full horror of war and what was happening to there fellow crewmen.
The experience made me feel very humble and extremely grateful!
Well said. I had a ‘walk through’ yesterday at Bentwaters and it made me stop and think just what all those guys went through.
Very sobering.
Great news…
But will the CAA allow it?
I doubt it They seem hell bent on grounding every other warbird in the country just now:mad:
Took a trip out today to take a look at the Belle.
Nice Shots Chris! Not a shiny Chip Cart in sight either….:)
Please don’t ‘quote’ huge wodges of images when they are just a few posts above (However fantastic they are!)
