Well, just keep guessing I suppose (?)
I made that statement for a number of reasons:
1. There have been many eyewitnesses to view the aircraft as it carried out its taxi trials.
2. There have also been an official visit to Chengdu of the Central Military Commission, that viewed the J-20 from December 16 through December 21
3. There are two prototypes that have been built.
4. The taxi trials have finished
5. And there is a tight schedule to fly the aircraft before the end of 2010
Also, the J-20 is a major issue of national Chinese pride and they want the world to see that China can also build and fly advanced stealth aircraft. Plus I believe that there exists a small friendly competion with the Russians that intends to fly their second T-50 PAK-FA prototype. Plus there is less restriction on people that can view the J-20 prototype. They are there (the eyewitnesses) on the fenceline, looking and some even have cameras of one sort or another.
Here are two images of the Central Military Commission’s aircraft that they used to fly to Chengdu to view the J-20 prototypes. And also an image of what the aircraft is said to look like. 🙂
We shall Just wait and see dear Hotdog !!
My guess is that we might both be right and wrong – a combination of the two. But to argue over such small detail is pointless 😎
Foggy conditions at Chengdu
What better conditions could prevail upon the first sighting of China’s first stealth aircraft?. The fog has prevented us from seeing the aircraft in greater detail. The NATO code name for the Chengdu J-20(?), my suggestion would be “Fogger” or even “Foggy.” A most appropriate name for a stealth fighter aircraft!
:cool::)
First flight is near !
The first flight of the J-20 should happen very soon – within the next few days, and clear and better photos of the Chinese 4th (5th?) generation fighter will be released by the Chinese officials.
😉
Excellent find Pinko !!!
Great pick-up Pinko !!
Since it was deleted from the site you found it only gives this particular photo more credibility. Seems the censors were busy today. It also seems that the photo that was deleted from Top 81 was even more clear than this one here.
Please back on topic – the JXX J-20 from Chengdu remember!?
I second and agree with Dieno – 😎
More images of the Chinese FanJi-1 ABM
These are not cloned nor photoshopped in any way FYI:)
FanJi (FJ-1) ABM system
And just who did the Chinese copy with this missile? No one is the answer. This was Project 640 😉
Chinese HQ-4 SAM
The Chinese are very capable and talented individuals when it comes to reverse engineering military hardware. And they have their own designs as well. Another example of this is the HQ-4 SAM. It too is original. But when it comes to the SF-2 clone of the Russian SA-6, they (the Chinese) had many opportunities to acquire examples of the SA-6 from Egypt in 1978, and of course direct import from the Soviet Union when it existed. For example, the Chinese were able to acquire examples of the MiG-23 from Egypt in 1978
(4 MiG-23MS Flogger-Es; 2 MiG-23BN Flogger-Fs; and 1 MiG-23U Flogger-C; plus they also acquired 5 AS-5 Kennel missiles; 2 MiG-21MFs Fishbed-Js, which were copied by the Chinese as the J-7 III); and 2 Su-20 Fitter-Cs. So therefore copying the SA-6 Gainful was no major feat for the Chinese engineers. Even India copied the SA-6 themselves and call it Akash. So, China also do things independently of others – i.e., the TJ-1A and the HQ-4 SAMs, and of course the FanJi-1 ABM missile system. 😀
Just for comparisons
The latest J-20 artwork:)
J-11BH of PLAN
Most informed sources now state that this aircraft is one of the land-based J-11BH of the Chinese Naval Aviation, and not the J-15, which is carrier capable. These are the PLAN’s variant of the J-11B. It is seen here parked next to J-11BSH two seat aircraft. You were correct Dieno 😉
J-20 evolution by Chengdu 611 Design Institute (?)
It has eveolved over the years, and it does not have a delta wing planform at all.
CSS-7 variant of HQ-2 SAM (SA-2 Guideline)
The little-seen surface to surface variant of the HQ-2 SAM that use to be operated by Chinese forces. It is designated here in the west only as the CSS-7. Chinese designation is not known to me at this time.
