Now seriously, I was wondering the very same. the LCUs & LCM would have been more then ideal for this.

Also they could have sended a carrier down there & taken person on board, after all there is a lot of space in the hangers & they can carrie enougth food as well.

The US coast Guard has a ex WWII German Training ship, the Eagel. AS for the UK I have never heard one for them.

Sail training vessels are IMO a wonderfull tradition that every mayor nation that goes to sea should folow.

Ok, here are 2 sites where you can upload & download files completly FREE (no cost at all or registration needed).

    http://www.megaupload.com/
    http://rapidshare.de/

Just select the file (can be a zip, rar,… file as well with all the pics together) & load it up. You will have no problem as long as the files are not bigger then 250MB (in the case of megaupload) & 50MB (in the case of rapidshare).

I use both frequently & both are ok.

Now if the pics weight less then 1MB then you can always make a photolog at http://www.imageshacke.com (also free & you can link thumbnails to the page).

The blue is actualy much more efective then the grey becouse it camos with the blue sky, blue water & the gray dust when clouds are up. Same for a light green.
The Pink one I think has something to do that becouse of the blod in the human eyes, human tend to eliminate the red in there view or something like that. I know the Brits tested the pink on a sub in the 80s or 90s as well (no, not the pink sub moveie from the US ;))

chile is currently operating 3 difrent planes. The F-5 (Air superiority role),Mirages (Depending on the modell in A”D or AA role) & the Dragonflys (A2G role).
The Dragonflys are the olderst in service & the 1st ones that need replacement.

What other alternative would you have proposed to replace the dragonfly with, beside the F-16, grippen, Mirage 2000 or F-18?

At the time the dragonfly was adquired there were only a couple of planes that were capable to perform A2G as well as AA. Eather they were one or the other. Today plabes are designed in order to perform both missions.

Even bigger nations that can aford it are getting rid of dedicated AA & A2G fighters & getting Multirole instead.

You also have to remember that Chilie couldn’t get financing for the F-16’s for it’s airforce so where is all this money coming from? Cooper can’t be the only thing providing it’s income!

When negotiation began, regarding the F-16, Chile asked for a international credit which was given due to the good economical situation in Chile. But then, in the last 3-4 years the Cooper price has been growing.

As many of you may know up to know the Chilean armed forces recive a % of the sales of the Cooper in Chile.

Normaly the amount they recived was always at the min established (US $250 Million). But with the increase in the price the Chilean armed forces recivedd this year US $750 Million, which let them with a surplus of US $ 500 Million.

Those US $500 Million have been invested in anticipaing the payback of the F-16 credit & made able to adquire so much new equipment in such a short period.

Chile is not arming up, it is merly replacing old equipment.
The F-16 will replace the Dragonflys, the Fregatts the County & Leanders,…. .

Not only Chile in in need of such a replacement. Argentina needs to change there Mirages as well, Peru ,…. all have to modernice (Venezuela is already doing).
So if any other nation with old equipment would get the money, wouldn´t they get new equipment as well?

IMO they realy needed it badly.
As a reserve Officer in the Chilean Navy I can tell that only 5 years ago nobody would have thought that something like that could ever happen. Our ships where getting increasingly old & it was every more dificult to keep them operational.

Chile has been able to buy these ships (not only the ships, but planes, tanks,…) thanks to the high cooper price (the Chilean armed forces recive a % of the anual selling of the cooper) which will give the armed forces $350 million next year, compared to the $270 million from this (this is aditional & completly independend of the defence budged).

I know that there are planes to equip the F-22 with a Deck gun, but I haven´t heard anything about any upgrades so far for the F-23.

Also Chile is seeking to build in Chile 2 high sea patrol Corvets.
