I highly doubt any new purchase of Phalanx for the moment, the main reason that it hasn’t been installed is due to a number being converted into C-RAM for operation by 16RA.
The MOD has been incredibly cagey about C-RAM operations, now Iraq is over and A-Stan is winding down C-RAM mounts will free up for restoration to the navy. Also with the recent retirement of several T42 the RN can start looking at putting them on the T45 as they should be.
As for Harpoon, who knows. There is space for a couple of quad launchers aft of the VLS, I suppose you could take them off the four retiring Type 22 Batch 3. Still leaves you short of four quad launchers it you want all six T45 to have the capability unless the navy has some spare. Personally I think it would be more worthwhile adding a surface attack mode to Sea Viper, the Americans have done similar with SM-2 Standard as this video shows:
Well consider this guys, LB04 is even bigger! Can’t wait to see that go on the barge!
I’m sorry Village Idi but you are just going around making the same points over and over again along with links to the same articles in multiple threads on this forum. We all agree with you that dropping the Harriers and Ark Royal was a very bad thing that will cause serious difficulties standing up a new carrier at the end of the decade. The point has been made and we understand, you don’t need to keep on coming back to it over and over again!
As I have said before the decision has been made and the UK will now have to get on with it for better or for worse! What I won’t do is get caught into this general funk that it can’t be done at all!
As Badger had pointed out provisions are being made to move forward getting the correct skills into the navy ready for adoption of QE class at the end of the decade and as Stryker73 pointed out in his post in respect of 1SL ‘it is time to move on, stop dwelling on past decisions and concentrate all our efforts into the QE Class’ .
Please move on…
Indeed Swerve has got it, whilst Embraer is building a military transport they are lowering risk by going for civil aerospace components and levering experience from their airline program . They had already chosen the Rockwell Collins Proline fusion avionics suite, the IAE V2500 is a common and reliable civil engine with over 4000 produced and another 2000 on the order books. Looks like the manufacturer was more prepared to do a better deal then CFM. All in all this is working out to be a very interesting aircraft and a very real threat to future C130J sales.
Haven’t we already covered that this guy has a bit of a F35 bias.
If Indian MOD actually did that the European nations still competing would go ballistic. Anyway EADS and Dassault must know that the Indian MOD would do this and ensure their bids were within the safety zone.
I have been look at the pictures of the rolled out lower block I have been wondering about those rectangular sections sticking out near the front and back with depth markings on. I presume they are to assist construction and will be sliced off later?

Well it would bring Chilean Type 23 into line with upgraded RN Type 23.
Very interesting, my hunch it is its very similar to the high power/increased reliability WS-10H variant developed for the J-15 albeit with repositioned gear box. I also guess they have designed the fittings and mountings to be minimum change with the AL-31F. So they must have the throttle slam and compressor stall issues ironed out as that was of the major stumbling blocks of it being installed in the J-10.
As for Pakistan J-10 I think it depends on the time line they have set out. As far as I am aware the PAF has its hands full now inducting JF-17 as well as new and overhauled F-16. I’m sure I read recently one of the PAF brass saying they were prepared to wait for J-10 until it meets their requirements. If WS-10 is becoming a realistic proposition I would think Pakistan would prefer it especially as it would make a local overhaul facility more likely.
In the end it shows the worth of just getting the engine into service in the J-11, nothing helps iron out reliability and performance issues better then getting some good time under the wing! Just look back at earlier engines like the TF-30 or PW F100.
Further from previous post it appears to have a very similar setup to the older FLOLS system:

Ahhh but take a picture from a lower angle and you discover just how fug ugly it was!
Well an image I have been waiting for has been posted on the China defense blogspot, the landing sight!
So what do people think? Does it look like a Ukrainian one or indigenous?
Been trying to find a close up of the sight fitted to AK but so far except for some distant blurry shots I have found none.

If they pulled the MMRCA contract now it would cause massive damage to global trust in Indian defence procurement.
All the companies involved European, Russian and American have sunk a huge amount of time and money into the MMRCA process, to pull the plug now would be highly unfair.
Well if its for real its certainly an important development especially for Pakistan. The PAF were only interested in the J-10 with Chinese engines.
The AK going out to sea for too long?! She is only ever out long enough for something to break down and her to return back for repairs.
I was referring to the F-15A/B that were sent to the boneyard rather then being put through MSIP.
