What is the rationale behind the UK getting the less capable and more expensive F35B as opposed to the F35C, considering the new carriers could be configured to handle either?
This came up in this months edition of AFM.
I think it should be a split buy of B and C.
Interesting report here considering Boeings 767 tanker woes:
http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i=3405770&c=AIR&s=MID
I really do get a feeling that IAI Bedek have a chance to clean up in the 767 airliner to tanker conversion market.
Ironic really.
Well if you want Fleet Air Arm stuff what about this?
Not that JG71 are adverse to some low level fun gulp:eek: :
Its impossible to get into the aircraft from the left due to the canopy opening sideways to the left rather then up as on many fighters.
As for why SAAB designed it that way – who knows?
imagine what has happened with the C130s and the P-8’s if this is the case with this ship!
Not really a fair comparison, the C-130 and P-8 will both be new build rather than second hand.
The EJ200 has been put forward as an upgrade path for the Panavia Tornado they are virtualy interchangeable.
The funny thing is they are set to win big with the P8 order. The USN wants lots of them and other nations with aging P3 fleet are seriously looking at it even India that has no history of buying this kind of system off America have jumped onboard.
😉 Lockheed 😉 And old McD (Now Boeing…)
We only need so many tankers, even if they only ever came from one company the rest of the time we are a country…. So you’d give it to Airbus because you are sick of seeing a Boeing Tanker? If they have already made a selection…then it is wrong to have a fake competition…and if that is in fact what they did where Boeing was basically written out of the competition, then lawsuits will be thrown , and rightfully so, because weather anyone like to believe it or not, a lot of money was spent on both sides for marketing and research, plus development costs… and if it came down to then not having a chance….well, I do not see Airbus holding the reigns too long without a long court battle.
Is that what I said? You read way too deep into that one…
No, do what Lockheed forgot to do with the J…
Ask the crews who currently fly those missions what they need? And the MX who fix them, what would make turn times faster..
As the tactics folks what would make their lives easier…
Logistics folks… you get the point.Hang out at the Airlift/Tanker Association and pick the brains of the people who actually matter…
Well it does beg the question what would of happened if Boeing had kept the MD-11 in their product lineup. Maybe they could of even ditched the third engine effectively giving them their own a330.
Of course the next question is how will this affect France’s PA2?
I presume that now the UK has made a clear commitment with the Steel purchase that they will want to move forward themselves.
Well Ja Worsley is the expert in this area but basically the new build Kiwi Sprites have never had the same problems of the Aussie ones.
It often takes a change of government to sort out this kind of mess!
The next question is what does the Aussie navy do now?
I doubt that Lynx is on the cards…maybe some more S70 or NH90.
Really!
Ho hum…thats Youtubefor you!
At last!
Now we are getting beyond the point of NO cancellation!:D
About time…
Well its always interesting when something different turns up.
I remember a couple of years back driving around the M25 and passing a French Army convoy. Small trucks and flatbeds carrying french MLRS I presume they were over here for an exercise.
For that matter didn’t the German army have a training base in Wales for their Panzers I vaguely remember a news report about them pulling out and returning to Germany several years back.
Ummm is there anyway that we can ALL get to read it. It’s very hard to get a copy of AFM in Kalifornistan. It’s pretty much an hit or miss about finding it at your local Borders (I know coz a few months ago there was an MKI write up that I wanted to read).
You cannot conduct a discussion singing praise of an article that very few have read or can get access to. After we read it and find out exactly how much ink has been devoted to describing the No.20/30 experience can we really judge the article.
I can understand if No.30 drivers DON’T want to talk about what their putative TVC can/cannot do. If that was the case, I am pretty sure the author has a line somewhere in this article that says something like
It’s like writing/reading an article about Space Shuttle Program which did not talk to anyone in NASA about it but manage to get some great inputs from the Buran program. And coz the Buran is now a theme park/tourist novelty we can successfully conclude that Space Shuttles make for very good expensive theme park ride and nothing else…..coz thats the “eastern view” of the Space Shuttle program.
I am sure I am wrong and you kids are right….there is enough an more written about the IAF No.20/30 sqd TVC experience.
Well I felt it fairly reasonable to start a thread about a British magazine article, on a British forum run by the company that publishes said magazine.;)
