Fedaykin asked about the reloads, so here are the informations I have about this design (source Brown Moore: Rebuilding the Royal Navy):
28 Sea Slug Missiles, 12 ready for use 16 broken down. Displacement 6400 tons twin shaft turbine maschinery. Waterline lenght 485 feet. The reloads were under the bridge in a magazine. The extension of this magazine should end somewhere in front of the funnel.

Note: Nobody seems to have noticed the christmas greetings:
Note the visitor in front of the Seaking, the flag signal showing limited maneuverability and the christmas tree on the front radar mast.

So – Merry christmas to all ;-))))

By the way Jeanne de Arc for me seems to be a very good answer (30 years erlier) to the discussion of a “global cruiser” which was planned for the Royal Navy. some time ago.

    Thanks Mate!

    Merry Christmas to all!

yes it basically is just that. A proxy war between Ethiopia and Eritrea using Somalia as the battle ground. As for the aerial exchanges between the two countries in the previous war, read ACIG for a more detailed account. And yes, the R-27’s performed poorly while the R-73s (Archers) did quite well. read this
    http://www.acig.org/artman/publish/article_189.shtml

*edit nvm, I didn’t see your post with the same link* 🙂

I removed the link because after reviewing the ACIG website it transpires that they have attempted to take legal action against Key Publishing for plagarism and uncredited links from their website.

This is what ACIG has to say on the previous war, makes interesting reading!

I have removed the link as ACIG appear to be a bit stroppy about Keypublishing at the moment and I have no desire to cause them problems. If you go to ACIG website you should find an extensive report about the previous war.

I always thought it was Ukrainian mercenaries on both sides flying the Mig29’s and Su27.

Someone please correct me on this if Im wrong…

Well I presume both types use the same 100mm turret which is based on a French turret so if you know the size and weight of that then compare the scale you might be able to do a rough estimate of size and tonnage.

Don’t expect me to do the math:p

I would say closer to 12000 as well but then I’m happy to be proven wrong.

The CIWS is no surprise but the 100mm gun is interesting, obviously they intend her to perform naval gunfire support as well. I will be interested to see what form of landing craft she will use.

The AN26 can be fitted with under wing bomb racks but I don’t know if Ethiopia has any, they might be pushing the bombs out the back.

The problem is Ethiopia/Somalia is not the best place in the world to get footage of combat aircraft in action. The press tend to avoid that neck of the woods!

The best chance is Al Jazeera at the moment as they do have news crews out there. I’m watching Futurama at the moment so I haven’t had a chance to switch over to Al Jazeera yet:D

Some form of russian type I would presume, there airforce operates:

    Mig21
    Mig23
    Mig23BN
    Su22
    Su25
    Su27

Take your pick from the ground attack types.

I just scroll past star49’s and crobato’s long running rambling argument now;)

Surprised SOC hasn’t told them to chill out.

Whilst this will be unwelcome for Taiwan have a feeling that this is more orientated towards Chinas efforts to build a blue water navy and posess genuine power projection capabilitys.;)

    True,

Turns my mind to the Su33 purchase recently and the varyag. We haven’t had any decent pictures of her at Dailan for a while now. The Chinese have really tightened up the security on her, only a year or two ago we had a constant stream of pictures.

I would say that the new LPD is quite small but nevertheless an unwelcome development for Taiwan. I will be interested to see how many China churns out!
