Well the film came out in 1990 they probably had finished promotion of what was a total flop by the time you saw it! 😀

N543J is listed as being certified in 1994 so I presume that is a recertification or was she pulled off the prototype list maybe?

RpR and Fedaykin, I think you are right. I just wouldn’t have placed the Draken over NW USA painted in black. Thanks for doing the research (what put you onto this particular aircraft?)

This puts to rest a two decade old mystery for me. Whilst I wasn’t thinking stealth aircraft the black colour scheme threw me.

I guess the only question left to ask is why was it soo close to a civilian jumbo laden with passengers:eek:

No problem, your description was a good starter! Going on there being Draken in the country and N543J being certified a few months before and being painted in matt black I put two and two together. I would put money on it being her, always remembered the aircraft in Wings of the Apache so looked up the airframe when the internet was invented!:D

The Draken is an amazing unsung cold war fighter jet!

I always rather enjoyed this film, pity it is rather slated these days on the web! OK it is a blatant Top Gun rip off with some scenes clearly lifted out of the prior movie but it was fun. The premise was a bit stupid, why send a squadron of Apache to take on fast jets and a super fast and manoeuvrable helicopter like the Model 500 (called the Scorpion in the movie) when some F-15 or F-16 backed up with AWACS would do a much better job!

Sounds like a Draken, there are several ex Danish examples there for years. Notably NTPS a civilian test pilot school who also lease their jets for various aggressor and testing duties. Whilst the Convair Delta Dart was beig used as a drone the year you are talking I highly doubt it is what you saw. The Draken has a very similar silhouette to the Delta Dart so that is why you were probably caught out. N543J is an interesting civilian owned example she was used in the American film “Wings of the Apache” with Nicholas Cage. Actually my money would be on it being N543J as she was painted in a matt black colour scheme and was certified in the US in April 1994, it is about the right time. Here she is:

Ironically I was wing aircraft recognition champion around 94/95 in the ATC! Can’t remember it was so long ago!:D

If that is the case I am not entirely surprised, I never believed the idea that it was never going to be purchased by the China Airforce.

looks like the “second deal” is about to be concluded…

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) -MP, Adnan al-Mayahi, of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee stated that Iraq will conduct a new armament deal with Russia.

Speaking to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com), he said “The Russian side did not reject the previous armament deal with Iraq which was conducted in 2012 where it has no defaults, but some persons in the negotiating Iraqi delegation were changed.”

“The new deal will include purchasing warplanes and different air defense equipment that are different from those in the previous armament deal in addition to reconnaissance aircrafts,” he concluded.

-by “reconnaissance aircrafts” he means UAVs.

Interesting, wonder what UAV that would mean.

and this may be the reason for slow down in EF deal implementation as they simply not satisfied with its capabilities considering its high price.

Ahhh and when you can’t win an argument you switch back to talking about issues with the Saudi Typhoon deal! Where is the evidence they are not happy with Typhoon, again carry on posting without evidence it gives us all entertainment with your stupidity!:D There have been negotiation issues on the next Typhoon batch but that doesn’t mean the Saudis are not happy with their purchase! Iraq has passed budget with little money for Kurds.
in a matter of time when Russian weopons are delivered what will have there impact on Iraq internal/external situation as those weapons are likely to be used with more flexibility. and how US will continue supply weopons to such government.

A gibberish statement that has no relevance to the point I was making about future missile procurement for the F-16.

I am in no doubt that Iraq will get AIM-9X and AMRAAM in the future it is only a matter of time the jet can take both missiles after the correct software upload. AIM-9M and AIM-7F Sparrow are adequate for their needs at the moment.

I am starting to think American defence procurement is fundamentally broken!

The AT-6 lost Mr Boisture because it failed to meet critical performance requirements. It has neither the payload or range capability of the AT-29 and lacks maturity.
