Americans have a lot in common with the French!

Individually they’re pretty decent chaps but collectively we (Brits) tend to dislike them…..
They both suffer from intense and vocal patriotism (bit over the top, Old Chap) and the stubborn belief that theirs is the best, and only, way of doing things.
We are, generally, a tolerant and flexible bunch who bend over backwards to see things from everybody’s angle and we don’t understand those who won’t behave in like fashion. This tends to lead to distrust and mild dislike.

If the running costs are so high that there is no profit for BA how do Goodwood Travel stay in business? They’ve done it for years with Concorde charters and, I assume, they make money coz they’re still here!
One assumes (sorry I’m not an airline accountant) that BA were making money as well since they were providing the service…..

    I have to disagree on the cost aspect;

there have always been Concorde charters available for a fraction of the cost of a regular ticket – if they were uneconomic they would not have been run.
In the late 80s I added a charter to a NY trip for an extra £500 over bucket-and-spade. Bargain!
BA have always used the business market as a cash cow – business and first fares are so many multiples of the cheap rate it isn’t true. Can anyone explain why you have to pay 10 times as much to get three times the space? Like one-ways – why is one way double the roundtrip? Nonsense accounting.
As for not filling the bird now – why did fares go up when they came back into service? Before the crash I think it was around £6500 return – now it is £8000?
    They do because they can.

Virgin is Branson and Branson is Virgin…..

It is not a faceless corporation (like BA) and that is what makes it sell. Branson is also a marketing whiz and a fabulous innovator. He sells a similar product at a much smaller price – he invented Premium Economy, he revolutionised inflight entertainment in bucket-and-spade and his frequent flier program is just SO FAR ahead of BA that it’s not true……Virgin is the airline of choice for people who pay for their own tickets.
He offered a very fair price for Concorde (if it truly is making a loss) and, if anybody could turn it round, my money would be on him.
But I don’t think he will be allowed to try – more’s the pity.

    Much as we have tried

the only way to get to and from Heathrow is by car (from the West Country). Trains require going into and out of London and buses just don’t run at the right time.
If traffic was going to be such a problem – why the HELL did they ever start on T5?
The only sensible thing to do is encourage the airlines to use other airports (and I don’t mean other LONDON airports) and give us all a shorter journey.
Could somebody explain to me just what the “planners” are doing for their wages?

I’d be happy to see Concorde fly

in ANY livery but don’t think the politicians will allow it. They always made a healthy profit in the past – so the reasons given are bu****it. Let’s face it; the marketing is non-existant. BA have always been much more expensive than AF on a given route and the charters were always sold out. If they can’t fill the seats they are not doing it right!
Very glad I took the opportunity – when flights were £500…..

    Have to agree with MapleLeaf…..

Wardair – so much legroom and real china for so little money!

    Security, nothing!

The Mayor has had it in for Meigs for years. All his previous efforts to close it down have been fought off by AOPA, the FAA, Friends of Meigs etc. He was recently forced to give guarantees that it would be kept open (till 2026, I think).
The sixteen aircraft that were caught there have now departed, using a taxiway as a makeshift runway.
In doing what he did the Mayor violated so many laws you can barely count them; he was only able to act since the City own the land.
Now Chicago is left with nowhere for emergency air services (medevac, lake rescue etc) to operate, no dedicated ATC for the downtown area (that makes it safer?) and no executive airport for the many US business people who travel to Chicago for exhibitions, shows and conferences.
There is already a movement to boycott Chicago for business reasons and even to boycott flights that stage through the major Chicago airports. Hopefully Daley will be forced to backtrack or leave office.
But it had NOTHING to do with security……

Surely more airports away from London are a good idea?

Anything that saves a drive longer than the flight must be better!

    They escaped.

They were given special permission to take off from a taxiway.

Mr FF likes having a flying wife….

he can share the flying in the same way he shares the driving; he flies out, drinks beer and I fly back!
He also gets to buy all sorts of new toys without me moaning.

The problem with getting women interested in aviation is that girls are usually ignored when a flying trip is in the offing!

What are YOU doing to interest women in aviation?

I was lucky enough to have a father who included me in all the fun (he didn’t actually fly) when cars, boats, motorcycles or aircraft were involved. I love them all!

At school, when I said I wanted to be a pilot, I was told to go away and think of something sensible. Well Yah-Boo! I got there anyway.

I make a point of taking other women flying and letting them have a go. Most of them love it every bit as much as the guys – it’s just that nobody ever offers…….
