Should we pull down Nelson’s Column? Afua Hirsch thinks so…
I happened to be watching when this Sky News report was on the other day: –

If anyone has ever watched the Sky News topical discussion programme ‘The Pledge’, Afua Hirsch is usually spouting her leftist BS and arguments on it.

From this and the other footage I saw on YouTube, this was another cracking display from Dan Griffith, and I concur it was very ‘Hannaesque’.
As with Ray and Mark, he shows of the Spitfires outstanding turning ability, as well as its excellent performance.
A great tribute to them both, and of course R.J Mitchell, Joe Smith, and all the other talented people who worked on the design, and took the development of it through till the end.
A big thanks to them all!

Bradburger, scroll up, mine was a response to JG’s post, not yours…….
Apologies AK!

AK,
That might well be the case.
(Not quite sure what your first paragraph was about, though – a load of false assumptions again – it seems I touched a raw nerve!)
But what exactly is your point?
Just because of these past historical ties, you are saying we should accept the rule of a political union, which we never voted to join?
I don’t think you need much of an education to see that this train of thought and logic, is deeply flawed!

Regarding self-governence – if you or anyone can point to how you have been oppressed or undemocratically put upon by anyone outside of our own independently acting Government then ‘remoaners’ would accept it.
Isn’t the fact that EU law is superior to our own law an oppression, or ‘us’ being undemocratically put upon, especially when NONE of the UK electorate ever voted for us to be in such a position!
As for me applauding a subject when someone doesn’t agree with my own views or position on that subject, then one could argue that you, or many others are guilty of the same.
(Just take a look back through this thread for some great examples!)
AK linked yet another survey which can hardly be taken as a true indicator for the future, because we haven’t actually left the EU yet, and who knows how many of these people who answered this survey will have changed their position months or years down the line?
And all those who accuse people of being selfish for wanting to hold on to their country’s right to self govern, well, let them continue to do so.
What is a shame is how blinkered intelligent people can be – especially when it comes to nationhood.
Well, I couldn’t agree more!

Mustang G-SHWN heading back to Goodwood a few minutes ago.
Heard it earlier heading north, but couldn’t see it as it was out to the west.

I’m trying to “go” figure, can’t see anything clever here though? Maybe it’s not?
Oh, such a shame isn’t it.

Indeed Paul.
Sadly, the right to govern ourselves seems to be low or not even on the list of importance amongst the remoaners.
Yet they claim to be the cleverer and smarter ones.
Go figure!

To explain ‘little Englander’ – it’s someone who thinks the thing they are most proud of is much bigger than it really is.
That would be a remoaner and the EU then!

Surely one of the most famous of the surviving Spitfires in my view.
Competitively priced, let us hope it is destined for a reinstatement of one of its two JMR blue liveries and not converted to high back canopy/fuselage.
Mark
Indeed!
And it would be nice if it did return to the UK too.
A big no from me also for a potential new owner to convert it to a highback.

I don’t recall Alister ever making an announcement on his retirement from display flying, but it’s worth remembering that he and Andy Hill were a popular act as the ‘RV8tors’ prior to the Shoreham tragedy.
I guess that even though ‘Ferocious Frankie’ was a popular performer on the UK airshow circuit, you still need to have a good stream of airshow/display bookings to keep the aircraft financially viable.
And I guess if you do happen to have some down time during a season due to maintenance issues or pilot availability etc., that can be a pain because of the lost income from cancelled shows, or potential ones an organizer might have wanted to book the aircraft for.
Then of course, post Shoreham with all the extra bureaucracy and additional pressure that is now on the shoulders of the pilots and operators of these historic aircraft, they might ask themselves if it’s worth continuing with it anymore!
