Does anyone know if there are any Spitfire IXs still around that have the earlier small carb intake?
Also, why was this changed on later aircraft? Was it to incorporate a more comprehensive filter arrangement to cater for all service environments instead of needing a Volks filter etc.?
Thanks
Spiteful,
There are none currently flying today with the shorter intake, although some of them like MH434 would have when it rolled out of Castle Bromwich in 1943.
The later longer & larger type was introduced on later MK VIII’s, IX’s, XI’s & the XVI’s to house the Vokes tropical filter, of which I think there were at least 3 different variations! (Mark12 and any of the other Spit experts/restorers should be able to confirm this).
If you look at pictures of 434 for example, it was fitted with this type of filter whilst in Dutch service, and was probably done quite a bit earlier on in it’s service life to keep it in line with the various Mods that were introduced as MKIX/XVI production went on.
It think you’ll find that all of the UK’s airworthy Spits have to come up to & include (where applicable) the latest Mod standard, in the case of the MKIX’s, it’s AP1565W Vol 2. Part 1 Leaflet Z.26 from 1950.
Hope this helps.

Advanced Ticket Holder Gates
Sounds like an excellent display lined up both in the air and on the ground.
Got my ticket for the Sunday, really looking forward to it!
Just a head’s up about traffic for those who may be a bit worried following last year’s mess:
The local paper (Surrey Advertiser) has a short article about the show. Apparantly the organisers have taken a lot of steps to ensure that last year’s traffic/parking debarcle isn’t repeated. They will be opening a third entrance and have a much more organised parking system in operation.
There will also be some of the ‘creations’ used by the Top Gear chaps in various shows on display. I assume this appeals greatly to many on this forum…
See you Sunday,
Rich.
Yes, that was real fiasco last year wasn’t it!
I must admit, whoever organised it for the 2006 show did a cracking job.
Lets hope the entry & parking all runs to plan this year!
Btw, Lee Howard has just said on another forum that the RNHF Swordfish will not be appearing either. 🙁

Seen this posted on the TVOC Website.
Flight Schedule Is In The News Area Under “Flight Operations” Sub Heading.
Due to a technical issue with the port under carriage while repositioning the aircraft from Waddington to Brize Norton the aircraft will not be able to display at Dunsfold, Sywell or Broadlands Park.
Thanks for the heads up.
I must admit, I was looking forward to seeing her! 🙁
Oh, well, maybe the organisers can book a few more last minute acts with the left over buget! 😀

Just noticed in the above list that the Hanger 11 P-40 is not on it, yet it’s still on the display participants list on the W&W web site.
Is this still displaying?

Doesn’t he own two?
So does this mean we`ll never see her fly over here?
Probably, but isn’t the one at DX an A-8?

There was a French-owned example that fits this description advertised on the Courtesy Aircraft Sales site a while ago. Perhaps it’s being prepped for a new owner stateside? A French owned Corsair went through the same process at Dx a few months ago.

Disappointing but….
We should all know by now in the U.K that whilst the weather can be fine where you are, just down the road it can be a totally different story, as I can testify on return by road from Old Warden last night!
We left about 18.15 and whilst overcast, visibilty was good and there was no rain, and several of the collections aircraft were still giving flights to the raffle winners etc.
However, as we joined the A1 (southbound) just down the road, it was a different as I said above, a different story. Rain, lots of low cloud and a squally wind. It was hard to believe what it was like at OW a few minutes previously! This continued until we got home in the deepest depths of Surrey.
I wondered if any of the visiting aircraft, most of which had left before us, had encountered any problems on their way home.

Ummm….
Looking at these user’s, they don’t appear to be spammers. They have been posting normal things. So i reckon somebody has hacked into those accounts.
Yes, I noticed that with docrjay!
It seems he was a regular poster on the forums, so I wonder if these accounts have been hacked?
Hopefully the tech bods will be able to sort this out.

I’ve got one from docrjay (who’s last post here was in September of last year) with a link to word document & website which I of course did not open!

I’m glad your all enjoyed the clips.
It seems rgnvideo has since added a few more to his collection, including a stunning display by Pete Kynsey in TFC’s Corsair at Woodchurch from a couple of years back.
I also found another featuring Mark Hanna & MH434:

19:43 tonight over Detling flying in loose formation a number of monoplanes and biplanes.
Grabbed a couple of haphazard shots from long range and only this one was any good at all. It contains a DH Chipmunk and what appears (to me) to be a Fw-44 bearing a code of NV+KG (last letters could be X or Q).
Any ideas of the rest of the formation or who, where from/to?
I think the answer might be here:
