Ant that was indeed a serious proposal.
I remember when I first saw that picture many years ago thinking “Now what if!” 😮

The Ju52 scene was the in the last episode I think when Moggy & “Amanda” shot it down.
It was masquerading as a Red Cross plane picking up a downed German pilot if I recall correctly.
Daz, regarding the CD, no probs. Just gotto get to grips wiht the thought of cleaning all the slides up!
Mike, it is indeed sad looking at the number of pilots involved in filming who are no longer with us. 🙁

Daz, I too liked that one of PL983 & MH434. Reminds me of that seqence when they return to Friston after shooting down the JU52!
I do eventully plan to put all the slides we have on to CD but as you can see they need alot of cleaning up to get them up to scratch – excuse the pun! There’s a lot of slides from OW in the 80’s (and even 70’s i think) and some from the 1989 Fighter Meet.
Anyway, here’s a couple of others from the 1988 DX show:

Some More!
Here’s a couple more of NH238 landing:

I think it may have been the late great Mark Hanna at the controls.

Ok Daz here’s a few I scanned earlier. Didn’t clean them up as they needed quite a bit of work! So apologies for the scartches, hairs & dust etc.

I have quite a few others from the same show but it would be nice to clean them up before posting them! 😮

I have quite a few my Dad took at the Duxford 88 Spitfire show.
Plenty of PoC Spits & Buchons! 😀
If I remember rightly we went on a double decker bus ride along the flightline which meant he got some good photo’s from the top deck.
One photo that springs to mind is of George Ellis taxying in the Shuttleworth Spit V and looking straight at the camera! Looked like it had all been planned!
I’ll hunt out the slides and have a crack at scanning them.
My original plan was to scan all his slides and put them onto CD-R so this will be a good start!
Btw, interesting to see one of the replicas getting some juice!

Yes it is an interesting article Mitch.
But I think you’ll find that it was Sept 11 that drove Warbird insurance prices crazy rather than the recent crashes at shows over the past few years.
This is what I’ve heard and what Richard Pavers Article says too.
Interesting to read Paul Coggans column too, especially the comments from Ray Hanna regarding “High energy/Low Level” manouvers.
As you’d expect, he has lots of sensible things to say on the subject. 😉

Well, I’m glad you’re clearer as regards to Stephen Grey’s accent and that you are enjoying your video!
I bought mine about three years ago or more and I must say I was quite dissapointed with it.
I had already got the Spitfire one and enjoyed it very much. However it seems that the original makers (Battlebase) must have gone bust or something as the Hurricane one was made by Duke themselves from the materiall shot by them.
I thought it was badly edited and lacked polish when compared to the Spitfire video. And I thought that the music they played during Steven Grey’s aerobatic sequence spoiled it somewhat. I think the sound of the Merlin would have been better!
Basically I think it could have been done better.
However I did enjoy Steven Grey’s talk about how he got the aircraft and his cockpit breifing.
Despite my comments, I’d say it’s still worth having in your collection especially with the new price tag of £4.99!

From all I have read on this wonderful aircraft, it does indeed have a bit of a reputation mainly has a great trainer but also because of the following points:
1)It has a tendency to ‘Flick’ Out Of A Tight Turn
2)Can be a handful on the ground – i’e will groundloop if provoked
3)It does run out of steam quickly during aerobatics.
I assume this is were the ‘Sack Of Spuds’ thing comes into play!
Also it appears that it has quite heavy controls as well.
I was reading a Pilot report on the web about flying the Spitfire ( it was the South African high back IX which crashed in 2000, can’t remember the serial, TE2??) and he talked about the lightness of the Spitfires controls and remarked that he had done some aero’s in a Harvard a few weeks before and his arms ached for several days after!
I think the ‘Pilot Maker’ just about sums up how people regard this plane.
Btw, I did find an article on the web about flying the T6.
When I find it, I’ll post the link.

Lancman,
Good question.
I believe he is English but from what I understand he spent a lot of time in Switzerland (I think he lived there for many years) and seems to have picked up that “hard to put your finger” on accent.
I also understand that he can speak several languages too.
In fact I recall that after his emergency landing in ML417 at the 1986 Middle Wallop airshow, he talked to my dad about it then was approached by a French guy and proceeded to tell him all about it in French!
Always seems to have a good sense of humour and a comes across as modest kind of bloke.
Not to bad a pilot either! 🙂

Corsair,
Looks like Damien has what you need.
However here is the link to my Legends pictures post on Avi8 with the aerial shots:

Corsair
Good to see you on this forum mate.
I wonder if those ones I posted on Avi8 that my Dad took from the Tiger Moth at Legends this year are any good?
EDIT:
Just checked them but sadly not all of the airfield is in shot. Still I’m sure someone will have what you’re looking for.

I do believe it was actually 1986.
I have the BBC program of it on tape somewhere.

Talking of West Malling, I have some video footage that display somewhere.
Looked at it while back and things that stickout are MH434 being given a High power run up and Mark Hanna taxing her from where she was parked during the display to the overnight parking area.
Also have footage of Hanna Senior & Junior dogfighting a Fiat 46 in the P40 & Spit respectively.
