RE: Spitfire PR Mk.11 PL983

PL983 was tragically destroyed in a crash at Roen, France early last year in controversial circumstances. Sadly it’s pilot, Martin Sargeant, was killed. 🙁

It appears to have suffered some sort of engine problem during it’s display and whilst setting up for a textbook emergency landing Martin saw that the assigned emergency runway had become filled with members of the public. Sadly as he tried to realign with the other runway the aircraft stalled and crashed into a field.

A somewhat unsatisfactory report into the crash was published by the French authorities which seemed to turn a blind eye to the real reasons for the crash.
