Also just back, hats off to all concerned with the flying side of things, despite appalling weather and low cloud the operators etc did all they could to make it happen in the air. Obviously in the circumstances not the most memorable of shows. On the ground, well that’s another story, prices will no doubt be a major issue, not a big crowd, so what will happen next, lower prices to attract more visitors or hike them up to cover increasing costs. Tricky one.

Engineers do what they’re told, if they’re told to position some aircraft for a photo call for a unique, British event recalling the heyday of British aerospace development then so be it.

I’ve already funded the museum via tax and lotery contributions and I still wouldnt mind contributing a bit more for this. So whats wrong with pampering the people who’s money has made the preservation of these fantastic machines in the first place possible?

Oh, and Avro’s finest – I think that the sun does move by itself but thanks for that.

Could be wrong here, but if you are in the UK I think the only flying historic aircraft you have funded is the BBMF. Try asking them to move an aircraft for a photocall and see what happens, maybe they will move it 25% or 40% depending on your tax bracket :diablo:

It’s probably cheaper to fly to Florida and go to Jack Brown’s. That is what everybody else does if they just want the experience and rating.

But you won’t get stunning scenery, dramatic weather and the good feeling about contributing to British aviation and the local economy 🙂

I believe that the tour/talk/sit down meal for Freinds of TFC was £18 just to cover costs sounded like a whole lot better value as pilots and engineers were on hand to show people around projects, cockpits etc. Join the friends and join the the team sounds good to me.

That was a great night, intro from Mr Grey, talked with TFC pilots, sat in most of the cockpits, hot sit down meal and met some of the posters here from the restorers and operators side of things. Can’t remember the price, I think it was only £15. Roll on another one!.

Sorry Dead Stick, would you kindly point out where I said that I didn’t like Legends?

I am simply stating a point of fact.

Fact – the crowds are lower for Legends than the main IWM shows.

Fact – the traffic conditions are better as a direct result of the lower crowds.

You’re most recent post on Legends has changed my impression, you absolutely love Legends, as do we all.

So with such a great show, if you’re travelling to Legends, cater for traffic delays regardless of the other IWM show attendances.

Not for ‘Legends’ you don’t, the traffic is generally much less than on one of the big IWM show days.

Wow, someone doesn’t like Legends……beware traffic has been busier than the IWM showdays…and as it is THE event of the year don’t get caught out expecting less traffic.

I notice from TFC’s website that they are hosting an evening for Friends of TFC to meet the pilots and engineers, not expensive either. I see they have also included families in the invitation.

I remember they did this in the early 1990’s, inviting Friends to the Press day before one of the summer displays.

Thet haven’t given a date yet, hope it happens.

It is clear that everyone has a point of view which we can or not agree with. It is also very clear that there are quite a few forum members with particular warbird flying or operating involvement and who have very strong views on the ’emotive’ issues. It is their livelihood. I appreciate that they may also wish to protect their identity.

I don’t think we will scare them off by our discussions, the ones I think I have identified are very sturdy characters.

Keep these discussions lively and interesting, pointless if we all agree all the time.:D 😀

    Well said Moggy!!

As for pilots displaying themselves and not the aircraft…………words fail me……every pilot I know who fly historic aircraft are only too well aware of the privelage and responsibility involved.

Again, why all the fuss over the fire service cover, DX is an airfield as well as Museum. There are millions of pounds worth of airworthy aircraft sitting in hangars for our enjoyment……..fire cover on the doorstep 24 hours a day, ideal for the operators and ideal for us.

    Stop bl**dy moaning!!!

BBC Look East just showed film of the Blenheim………….on it’s belly, bent props and damage to engine cowlings………hard to say how bad engine mounts etc are.

Obviously in same item we had to go through Firefly crash again…..vendetta………probably.
