Reliance-Dassault JV is a scam in making.

If government goes ahead with buying another fighter type other than Rafale, Tejas or Su-30Mki, it will be shredded apart. It will be BJP’s Bofors.

I call bull on this. Flying a helicopter to infiltrate special forces just 500m to 3km behind a heavily defended frontier borders on suicide. With a target so nearby why not just hit it with artillery? let alone send heli-borne special forces.

There was also news of paratroopers being dropped from C17s for HALO jump behind enemy lines. Lack of any official information is letting peoples imagination run wild, on both sides.

    1. The area of operation was spread across 250 km. The troops had to circumvent a lot of pak border infra to reach their objective. Use of helos to ferry troops isn’t unimaginable. As per reports, there were a flurry of helicopter sorties to all sorts of possible infil locations, usually in pairs, to confuse the hell out of anyone keeping a track on them. Use of multiple modes of incursion is totally plausible given the large number of camps hit and mix of Para SF and Ghatak troops being put to use.
    2. Launchpads are usually under the umbrella of pak border posts and pillboxes to provide cover fire. Once SHTF, a quick evac becomes crucial. Plus helos can fly near undetected in the terrain at treetop level owing to the topographical features and lack of radar coverage in shadows of mountains.
    3. Arty fire is business as usual stuff. Even cross border raids are nothing new. The whole affair was supposed to be public and with a visible bloody nose. There were reports of a raid before this raid that were immediately quashed down by the army. The earlier reports of the Raid coincided with declaration of no fly zone over Pakistani turf and visibly increased Pak military tempo.

Pakistan has played right into the game, if they admit there was a raid, it would be a major loss of H&D and they would have to publicly up the ante in a manner that doesn’t involve non state actors. If they don’t admit there was a raid, that’s a green light to India to keep carrying out raids like these. Indian side expects infiltration, they have been dealing with it for the last 30 years. They have put up mechanisms in place to dissuade infiltration, multiple border fences, infra red sensors, ground motion sensors, infrastructure that took billions of dollars and decades to put in place. Pakistan OTOH neither has the time nor budget to prepare for two way traffic instead of the one way they were very used to.

    1. SFDR is an Air to Air class of missile working on booster-ram jet sustainer propulsion system.
    2. It is a technology demonstration vehicle to prove various technologies like: controlled ram jet propulsion system, chin mounted air intakes, nozzle less booster and boron based propellant with high burn rate.
    3. The base line design for the SFDR vehicle is ASTRA missile.
    4. The missile is required to be launched from pylon of the wing of aircraft which is underslung.

They are testing it with a booster. They will make a SAM out of it, I guarantee it.

The state of art SFDR is a joint development project between DRDO and Russia. SFDR is designed with an advanced propulsion system having thrust modulation using hot gas flow controller. The missile is configured with reduced smoke nozzle-less booster, having a range of 120 km at 8 km altitude with a speed of 2.3-2.5M. Preliminary design documentation of the SFDR propulsion system has been completed. Wind tunnel testing of SFDR model was completed in October 2015.

Turns out it’s an Indo Russian joint project.

Interesting. I wonder if the sidestick is the way the IAF is thinking or is just a figment of the simulator designers.

Probably just preliminary layout configurations. It’s too early to be set in stone for a fighter that won’t be in service 10 years from first flight.

The unpainted cowling is killing the good looks of the 6. Plus there is a certain rawness to the cowlings, like don’t bother to work on it too much, we will mod it again in a few months.
