Oh, hai X-47B.
More like nEUROn.

Meanwhile his stepbrother can now be seen on Google Earth.
What is this mystery 20 KN engine HAL newsletter talks about ?

A nice Mig-29 vid.
This belongs to the “flying low” thread ๐
That article is almost certainly a farce. Prasun Sengupta has published similar articles on the ATV program in the past that have proved to be total fakes.
-The basic design will remain the same for S-5. Introducing a whole new design, that too with a completely different propulsion system(double reactors and double shafts, probably meaning double the hull diameter as well) would mean a completely new class of submarine, not just ‘Arihant class S-5’.
-The Russians are offering consultancy for this program, not complete ready-to-use designs. This was clarified by actual govt sources in an interview before. The idea of purchasing a modified Delta IV design from Rubin is as unlikely as Prasun’s own earlier fantasy that the Arihant would be based on the Akulas.
-The VM-4 is a Russian reactor design used in various Soviet-era subs such as the Victor class. The Arihant class most certainly isn’t going to be using imported reactors, nor would such an import escape notice given NSG restrictions and such. This is what first tipped me off about the fakeness of this ‘article’.
To be fair to him, he claims that the illustrations were released by NPOL, so that might be the only thing fair in the ‘fairy tale’.

Go to Page 12. Check out the image of the Su-30 cockpit rig for avionics integration at DARE, Bangalore. Same layout with the characteristic dual MFDs of the Su-35. Same simulator is seen in the June issue with another senior IAF person visiting the facility.
Those dual MFD’s were not the easiest thing to locate even on a 20 inch monitor ๐ฎ
๐ฎ Can’t understand this “no rush” attitude. Have the extra MKIs made the IAF so confident that it feels no real threat that cannot be handled in this decade?
AFAIK, PLAAF numbers are simply unknown and tend to be surprisingly high when regiments suddenly make a public appearance. And, their ability to manufacture JF-17s (once they have it properly configured) in large numbers should give the IAF plenty of reason for worry,. And then there are incoming F-16s as well. But nope, they seem pretty relaxed.
Hell and the Tejas seems to be taking its time as well.
What gives? Any quick off the shelf purchases around the corner? UAE Mirages? Extra SMTs?
First they were talking about Rafale deliveries in late 2014. Then the outlook shifted to 2015-2016. I am pretty sure with the level of customization needed and the speed of negotiation, it might as well slip to 2016-2017.
AW&ST on Indian program on AMCA , Stealth and UCAV , Tejas Mk3
That weight of AMCA should be with fuel.

Lots of pictures of MiG-29SMT. This link was also posted on militaryphotos.net couple of weeks back.
That seems a rather huge center line tank.
PS: I hate the look of humpback fulcrums. Always have, always will.
I agree with you here partly. The PAK-FA with its twin engines will naturally have a bit higher costs for maintenance and fuel. Regarding efficiency and durability, itโs too early to say which is better.
Too early to say, but a reasonably safe bet to predict ๐
Just wondering, has anyone come across any literature on Operational Data Link (ODL), the Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS) and Air Force Net (AFNET) ? Its 2012, ODL was supposed to be ready by now, right ?
Sadly, whether it’s called ‘pessimism’ or not I feel the same as him there. DRDO, HAL and the like don’t have anywhere near a steady track record in delivering outside of the ballistic missile programmes. Delays and cost overruns are the rule rather than the exception and often by the time something is ready for induction the armed forces has already substituted an import and is not all that enthusiastic about the domestic product any more.
Given the realities in almost every field in India except defence(automotives, for instance) I very much believe the government should cultivate the private sector with the same fervour with which it funds the DRDO and Defence PSUs.
Check out the video I posted of interview with Dr Saraswat a couple of posts back. He talks about the same issues.
The people in India who have a monopoly on R&D say that only a home grown system with R&D and Development by them will be suitable for India and no one questions it?
The users question it. The CAG questions it. A consensus is reached and decisions taken.
why not? don’t you think JF-17 doesn’t have an over 0% probability of shooting down an F-22?
Fixed it for you.
I think the theory was the Submarine and its embarked aircraft were going to go ahead of the fleet and act as some form of early warning. A curious developmental dead end as adding a hanger and all the other gubbins seriously hampers the Submarines ability to do a rapid dive. I think those navies that still retained that kind of Submarine in the second world war found more use in using the hanger for cargo transport in high risk areas.
A number of navies experimented with the concept most notably the Japanese who also came up with the idea of using them as a system to attack the Panama canal. A flawed plan in my opinion as the aircraft wouldn’t of been able to carry enough munitions to do any serious damage to the canal facilities.
There have been some more recent concepts of launching drones from Submarines, some kind of compact solution that will fit in a VLS silo or torpedo tube.
From what I read somewhere, those planes were to be used for a kamikaze attack.
