    ^:D

Fail to understand how selling the Rafale at “bargain basement” price or at a reduced profit makes the Sale Illegal ! 😮

Cost undercutting to undermine the competition is an unfair trade practice world over, but we should wait to see if Dassault has done that.

    Question about the class:

    http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zOh3Yb1CNC8/Tl5iSXLE2oI/AAAAAAAAAQk/2A_kd7ORVfI/s1600/INS+Kamorta+ASW+Corvette.jpg

Why no large sonar bulb for a primarily ASW ship?

The hull mounted sonar array housing indeed looks small.

It’s the criticism of Phil Collins that bugs me.

    He was great in Genesis.

Again, I wasn’t making any comment about either aircraft, I was asking a simple question:

Can someone remind me of the detail of the MMRCA requirement that if one aircraft was more than a certain amount (5%?) cheaper than its rival, then it had to be selected/go forward to the next stage.

What stage was that at? (I think it was when they shortlisted, which was why they could not shortlist MiG-35)

What was the margin? ( I recall it being 5, 11 or 14%)

I’m sure I remember reading it somewhere, but Google isn’t helping me rediscover it?

I think you are looking for this report”

While the French Rafale came out to be slightly cheaper than the European Consortium’s Eurofighter in terms of ‘fly away cost’ per unit, as expected, the difference was less than 5 per cent. This throws the competition open.

    http://www.indianexpress.com/news/bids-open-for-fighter-aircraft-likely-to-be-a-political-call/871143/0

Also unless the full details of the financial evaluation are made public, it is impossible to separate the ToT costs from the operational costs in this “20-25%”. As per this ToI report the ToT costs of EF were significantly higher (no percentage cited).

    Hmm i see.
Any word on the Nirbhay? So little info on that..not even a schematic or a cad image ?

Talked to my chaiwalla about it. Refuses to utter even a single word about nirbhay. Very clandestine.

So that makes 6 successful interceptions out of 7 right?

And the one that didn’t happen was due to glitch in the target missile.

So the product exist and just waiting for an order, or did India order F414 EPE already perhaps ?
if so it is in mass production.

The thrust of GE 414 IN56 isn’t specified anywhere. Although the GE statement says that its the highest thrust variant of 414 available, I have my doubts if its the EPE engine.

Just remind that the Typhoon is to be in service in Germany for several decades and in the same time that there’s no chance that Germany buys the f-35 instead of Typhoon, so the F-35 can’t even remotely be considered as a Typhoon killer.

    Fixed it for you 😉

The F35 is probably the true killer of the Typhoon prgram with billions of € that are going to fund a US lead design with only minor offset&ToT. With Italy clearly wanting to put an end to the Typhoon and other country unwilling to pay necessary upgrades it does not look good.

I bet a Rafale fan would we the first to explode in a searing ball of flame if someone called JSF a Rafale killer :diablo: Rafale isn’t much cheaper than EF to buy ( less than 5% flyaway, and before you throw around the 25% price difference from MMRCA, that includes much expensive manufacturing ToT cost in case of EF)

IAF fighter deal: Rafale much cheaper than Typhoon

In order to have but a slim chance they would not only have to cut the fly away cost, but also the cost of operating the Typhoon. I think they would have more chance asking their tooth fairy.
Beside as I’ve said before, the UK’s political reaction was very bad, and killed any remote chance of comeback.

Going by those figures, and by conservative assumptions ( Typhoon 22% expensive on lifecycle costs and $1 US = ₹ 50) the lifecycle cost for 126 Rafale including transfer of technology comes to around $22.72 billion or roughly $180 million per Rafale. For Typhoon it comes to $27.7 billion or roughly $219 million per Typhoon for lifetime and ToT costs.

DRDO Statement: India’s DRDO today conducted a successful test launch of its endo-atmospheric interceptor missile., part of the country’s ballistic missile defence (BMD) programme DRDO’s Air Defence Missile AAD-05 (Photo 1) successfully hit a modified Prithvi ballistic missile (Photo 2) and destroyed it at a height of 15 kms off the coast of Orissa near Wheeler Island. Radars located at different locations tracked the incoming ballistic missile. With the target trajectory continuously updated by the radar, the onboard guidance computer guided the AAD-05 towards the target missile. The onboard radio frequency seeker identified the target missile, guided the AAD-05 to hit the target missile directly and destroyed it. Radar and Electro Optic Tracking Systems (EOTS) tracked the missile and also recorded the fragments of the target missile falling into the Bay of Bengal. The interceptor hit the incoming ballistic missile directly and destroyed it at an altitude of 15-km. The mission was carried out in the final deliverable user configuration mode.

    Good job 🙂

mig-35 aesa was pretty small, didn’t use the normal size radome

IIRC, the production variant MiG-35 was meant to have a much larger array with radar slipping a few inches up the nose ?

Bareilly AF base gets Dhruv MK-III

The helicopter, manufactured by HAL, differs from the previous version of ALH, or ‘Dhruv’ in the terms of the more powerful ‘Shakti’ engines, full glass cockpit and the integrated Electronic Warfare (EW) suite. The various systems integrated into the helicopter make it a highly manoeuvrable and potent platform for military operations by day as well as by night. The induction of ALH Mk-III at Air Force Station Bareilly is being regarded an important milestone in the Indian aviation industry as well as towards modernisation plan of the Indian Air Force.

The ALH Mk-III is being inducted in 111 Helicopter Unit(111 HU), which was operating with Chetak and Cheetah helicopters earlier. With the new induction, the unit would be better equipped to continue the task of humanitarian relief, casualty evacuation from the Himalayan ranges as well as search and rescue operations along with regular military operations. The unit has also been earmarked for the presentation of the ‘President’s Standard’ for its glorious service for the past 49 years.

Could somebody post a detailed description of the configuration of the Indian Rafale? Things like: What kind of IR sensors, what scan modes for the AESA, SPECTRA, HMD, other updates to MMI, etc, etc.

Also, how will it differ from the Rafale flying today (we all know about the AESA but what else?)

I doubt anyone can quote authoritatively the final config of Indian Rafales at this point. Probably at some time, we might see a version of SPECTRA using the hardware developed by DARE. HMD dhould most probably be Topsight, for which Samtel already has a JV with thales.
