Out of the 108 aircraft at least 40 will arrive from France?? are you sure?
is there any link confirming this?

This is how Mki production happened. If that deal is anything to go by,

first 18 to arrive from France.
Next batch of ~ 36 assembled from knock down kits
Next batch of ~ 36 with subcomponents made in India, with a partial Indian content
Next batch of ~ 36 maximising made in India components.

The more exotic the parts, the longer they will be made in france.

LOL!! China have rcs model of Rafale several years now and have close relation with France. France likely can provide data on Rafale like they did Mirage. Rafale is old design from 80s, J-10 is newer design and J-10B have AESA radar and entering service. How long will it be before India get their own Rafale? they are behind already by ten years. J-20 already is enough to defeat Rafale and Indian pakfa

    X v/s Y threads never fail to deliver 🙂

I don’t think that is true. i heard very first rafales will be positioned in North West and accompany Mig29.

First squadron will be based in Ambala.

Plans have already been firmed up to base the first MMRCA squadron at Ambala, with subsequent squadrons coming up both in the western and eastern theatres.

I don’t follow this logic at all.

Pakistanis would be operating in friendly IADS thus being in a better position, theoretically.

First time I’m hearing this..source? I’ve always read that the original deal was always meant to be for 49 fighters and then 10 more attrition replacement Mirages were bought in 2000 or so for a total of 59 of which 8 were lost in crashes.

What I know is that the IAF wanted to buy more Mirage-2000s or MiG-29s, but right around the time the decision needed to be made, the early 1990s’ economic crisis struck India and basically froze all such plans. As such it wasn’t a “termination” of any contract that already existed.

    the Mirage acquisition was:
    1st batch – 26 single and 4 twin seaters supplied in 1985
2nd batch- 10 single seaters also supplied in 1985
3rd batch- 6 single seaters and 3 twin seaters supplied in 1987 and 1988

Although there was no deal, there was a serious “intention” to buy upto over 150 Mirages, but then Su-30 Mki happened. In fact I remember reading somewhere that IAF had even developed extensive infrastructure for over 150 M2K.

I believe the option of 80+ (via a different rfp) is a backdoor they have left for F-35 in case AMCA does not work out.

Right after EADS issues an official statement about “respecting the decision”, Shiv Aroor reports this :-

Sources: EADS seriously considering contesting #Rafale selection in #MMRCA. Not without a fight, apparently.

Burp! (lickin the chops) aah, now for dessert:

What does le weapons/sensor package look like? bring it on!

    Sensors/EW: Yes
    RBE-2 AESA Yes
Spectra – latest edition please Yes
    OSF – NG Hopefully
    Damocles? Litening, most likely
    RecoNG No Idea
    Topsight HMS Yep

    Strike
    AASM?
GBU/Paveway series Griffon and Sudarshan maybe ?

    ASM:
    Scalp? Yes please
    Apache
    Crystal Maze Yep
Brahmos?? No way that monster is gonna fit on Katrina
    Nirbhay? Can’t say

A2A: Mica IR, Mica EM, Meteor, Astra? Yes, Oui, Si, Ja

I doubt an American weapons package is going to be used unless Rafale is plug and play and integration costs are not an issue.

You done with your lamb chops already ?? I am barely through half my Old Monk premium (yes I saved a 12 year Old Monk premium bottle for NLCA flight but MMRCA happened)

Dassault is owned by EADS 46% and Dassault family 51% so who holds the remaining shares ?? a privileged few perhaps..I don’t think Dassault shares are available to an ordinary investor..

Thanks for the info, I didn’t know that.

    awesome news !

    he won’t. the italians didn’t win. 😉

Forgot about his crazy “Italian-French connection hence Rafale shall win” conspiracy theory ? On the flipside, having been a professor of economics at Harvard he might have made a killing with Dassault shares in the last few hours 😉

    ^^ From the link:

One defense ministry source with knowledge of the negotiations said the life-time cost of the tender including training and maintenance may reach $15 billion.

Journalist’s mistake or the “source” was trolling 🙂

Also something to make Rafale fans happy 🙂

“Unit-wise, the French plane is much cheaper than the Eurofighter. Moreover, the Indian Airforce, which is well-equipped with French fighters, is favoring the French fighter,” said the source, who asked not be named.
