Brazil’s defense minister, Celso Amorim, says he hopes a government decision concerning the purchase of 36 new fighter aircraft for the Brazilian air force will be taken before the first term of the year is over.
The purchase by the army of 197 light helicopters has been re-tendered, following an objection by Bell-Boeing. This delays the award to one of two short-listed contenders: Eurocopter with its Fennec AS550 C3, and Kamov with the 226T. There has been no indication as to when the contract will be announced.
When did this happen ?
IAF’s ACM says that he hopes that the L1 bidder will be identified in 2 weeks time..
It was 3 weeks 4 weeks back :p
ugh… why the paint is splotched here and there in the wing ? poor workmanship ? or they hand painting tamiya acrylic on tejas ? or the metal corroded so quckly ?
There is no metal in the wings π
Here is that prototype on ground. You can see there is no paint peel off but white tape.
Here is the prototype from another angle
Two EJ200s could make it a Typhoon-sized fighter, with a comparable price tag.
IIRC, it was already envisaged to be in the class of super hornet.
I guess it’s after business hours in India now. Has anyone spotted any Dassault/Eurofighter personnel coming out of the MOD with big smiles or tears in their eyes?

On #MMRCA, @thaparvishal says Eurofighter rep summoned to MoD 2day. (EADS & MoD officially deny this, but trying to figure if there’s more).
Business as usual π
The one at the front says 800l drop tank, while the one at the back is really hard to make out but possibly looks like 1200l drop tank written on it.
If those three are indeed 1200l DTs then thats quite a lot of fuel for a small fighter. 2400 kg internal fuel plus 3600l external fuel. In that config you could add two BVR, two WVR and a recon pod.
I believe Madrat is right, for a more realistic loading it should be 3×800 litre tanks instead of 3×1200.
3×1200 litre tanks~ 3300 Kgs (including weight of pylons)
2×2 BVR missiles ~400 Kgs
2×2 WVR missiles~300 Kgs
Recce pod = 200 Kgs
sums up to almost 4200 Kgs
Add to that the loaded weight at 9500 Kgs and you overshoot MTOW by 500 Kgs.
I found this one. Seem to be the under-fuselage space fits to 800L tank only, not 1,200L tank as initial plan.
The three tanks attached are 1200 liter tanks and the two in front are 800 liter tanks (see the placard in front of pylon 2, you can make out 1200 liter written on it, and the tank on pylon 2 and pylon 7 look the same size)
The centreline hardpoint can only carry LGB ..but I dont think the hardpoint has been qualified yet.
Infact I havent seen any pylon even.
ray, there is only one such pic AFAIK. static, not flying. people on BR had the same question and someone found this image a few months back.
Centre line loading should be perhaps the easiest to study with minimum disruption to airflow over wings and providing least of bending forces and differential loading, but not one picture surfacing over 8 years is surprising. It isn’t even featuring in some latest wind tunnel models.
Old
New
PS: can’t make out whether its pylon 7 or pylon 1 in the last wind tunnel model.
I can’t seem to find any pictures of Tejas flying with centreline load. Does anybody have any idea where they can be found ?

Agni-V test firing event has been nicknamed “Thaandavam” (Taandav = dance of destruction)

As if Agni-5 wasn’t enough, work on Agni-6 is also in progress.
βFuture systems may carry different types of payloads such as high energy weapons. Further systems whenever planned, will have some of these (read as MIRV/MarV) features,β he said.
On the launch date of A-5, he said: βThe launch campaign will officially begin in the middle of the month.β
It seems to me as if Agni-5 is only an intermediate product and Agni-6 being a full blown ICBM.
Finally some news on Lsp-7 and Lsp-8 after 6 months of skipping deadlines π
http://tarmak007.blogspot.com/2012/01/year-after-tejas-ioc-1-sulking-iaf.html
Sources tell Express that the LSP-7 will fly in ‘two weeks’ with engine ground runs and low-speed taxi trials (LSTT) over. βWe will have to do the high-speed taxi trials (HSTT) and then go for the first flight in two weeks’ time. It’s a final configuration aircraft and the integration of new systems are taking considerable time. Once the LSP-7 files, the LSP-8 too will follow suit,β ADA sources claimed.
Still no news on NP-1.
Ok, makes sense.
Anyone have by chance some firm layouts of what the INS Kolkata will look like, including weapons fit? I get all sorts of conflicting layouts and weapons configurations online. The few launch pics look pretty slick, ship seems to have good lines, at least so far.

All 3 of the class right?
Any details on the phased array on the top mast?
Looks like the navy is getting some big additions before 2015.

Ok, here is a conspiracy theory:
Some time back, I came across this tweet from a German reporter
@hemicker
Lorenz Hemicker
Battle for customers: German #Griephan states today that Indian #Rafale offer was priced counting on successful #UAE deal.
*tin foil hat on*
Someone in Eurofighter GmbH convinced UAE officials to consider EF for UAE deal therefore pushing UAE’s decision by a few months at least, therefore hurting Dassault’s bid on terms of economies of scale. Once EF is proven cheaper to buy and operate in Indian bid, they take on UAE and other middle east clients with better offers.
*tin foil hat off*
The part that seems the most infeasible to me is the timeline. induction in 2020 for an aircraft whose design might just have been finalised is optimistic to say the least ?
