Nothing to do with Muslims. Hussein is an Arabic name. The association with Islam comes from Islam originating in Arabia, & Arabic names having been widely adopted by Muslims. But it is not exclusively Muslim (Obama, anyone?), any more than David is exclusively Jewish (there are plenty of Muslims called Daoud, for example), & is not common in all Muslim communities.

Moosa – Moses
Gibreel – Gabriel
Sikander – Alexander
Ibrahim – Abraham
plenty more names are common in both the cultures

Realistically… we’re talking Rafale-M, which is probably the most politically correct and most joint-operationally prudent… or, definitely more radical… how about in exchange for PBoC Euro bond buying, procure the J-15? Customize with a joint-GE/RR developed next-gen advanced augmented TVC F110 motor, APG-82 and F-15SE displays/computer/BAE EW suite? Just sub in Pirate IRST for the domestic IRST and call it a day?
J-15 ? seriously ?

Is that a tiny radiation warning sign on the nose ? now thats a first.
Something to stir up things…
…Was reading a little bit into the latest edition of Air Forces Monthly today, (I didn’t buy it) & theres a piece about Typhoon ‘VS’ Rafale concerning India. I didn’t read all way through the article but did come across something quite interesting. (Rafale fans please look away now!)
Reports had come from the trials, during one or two of which, the Typhoon and the Mig-35 were the only ones out of all the contenders to achieve a thrust ratio of – or greater than 1.1 with a heavy weapons load and in hot & high conditions.
Quite possibly, suggesting these two types were the better ones in terms of performance during the trials.
As I say I didn’t read too much into the article but it looks interesting to read into – might buy it soon though to quote & credit a few paragraphs.
and they said mig engines were inadequate
Being the non engineering type, I always thought this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturn_AL-31
is a far better reengining idea for the Mirage 2000 than this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snecma_M53
Think they are close enough specs wise? Since India has a huge facility for the former, perhaps my fantasy may come true 😀 The improvement in fuel consumption and performance might be worth it. The M2k would have a better twr than the F-16, combine that with its already awesome wingloading, and we have a big hit. Oh yeah, since we are into fantasy might as well stick the TVC in there as well.
USS
Yes sir, why not. Remember the upgrade cost we told you about? it just doubled.

What missiles are those in the first bay ? long ranged aam ?

Recent photo, the “modified” Mi-28N.
looks like a mean bully you wouldn’t want to mess with.
The good point is that for the LRSAM, the propulsion, actuators, and airframe are from them. IAI provides the seeker & radar inputs (the set itself for the navy).
So when does LRSAM Barak-NG enters testing ? MRSAM Barak-8 is supposed to be integrated on ships 2012 onwards if i am not wrong.
Nothing can compare with the F-32, thats in a class by itself. I mean, seriously, what were they thinking when they made that montrosity.
No doubt the hump has ruined the classical lines of the MiG-29, arguably one of the most beautiful yet menacing looking fighters designed ever.
But the basic fighter has received a huge jump in capability.
X-32 looked classy from the top.
To be honest before AMCA design was made public i half expected AMCA to be a delta shape like X-32 (atleast from the top) with twin engines and conventional twin intakes (to minimize work by retaining delta wing fbw of Tejas)
If they pulled the MMRCA contract now it would cause massive damage to global trust in Indian defence procurement.
All the companies involved European, Russian and American have sunk a huge amount of time and money into the MMRCA process, to pull the plug now would be highly unfair.
Not to mention the massive wastage of bandwidth for the last 10 years, when IAF decided that it needed some planes.
The issue is not of prices for the base airframe, IMO. For a Su-30 MKI class aircraft, even $60M is still reasonable.
actually its $100 mil, for the last batch of 42. But IMO that is still very reasonable, as the earlier orders were a steal.
I always thought the intakes on the Typhoon were fixed as well?
Longer airframe life? We’ll have to see many years service from both aircraft to make a decision on that one…
Dassault claims 7500 hr airframe life against 6000 for typhoon.
I believe the situation will be :
1) Rafale winner on L1
Maybe
smaller
Not much difference.
smaller engines,
They are nearly in the same class. Eurojet claims longer life.
less moving parts : fixed refueling probe, fixed intake, no dorsal air brake, longer airframe life span….
Advantage Rafale.
If you add the economies on scale of the mirage 2000 upgrade the balance is even more in favor of the rafale. (+ possibility of a common fleet with the IAN)
IN factor doesn’t matter. Commonality with M2K a big plus point.
With India getting
-SA-3
-SA-6
-SA-8
-Akash
-SpyDer
-LRSAM
-ABMIndia has a fairly decent realworld RedFlag set up…
Aren’t SA-3, SA-6 & SA-8 a bit old in the tooth ? with SA-3 already retired and being replaced by Spyder and in development Maitri and SA-6 being replaced by Akash and in development Barak-8 ?
IAF to match top guns in Nevada
“We will participate in Red Flag in 2013. Since such exercises are very expensive, we have decided to undertake them only once in five years”, says IAF chief Air Chief Marshal P V Naik.
