    Does anybody else find it ironic that you don’t hear of Americans really bragging about beating such and such in a DACT but when the opposite happens its all over the web?

    Being devils advocate… potentially they don’t brag because they never win? :diablo: 😀

    IMO, the decision is based more on avoiding any potential embargoes than on outright performance…

    It is a position which does have some merit… but does it indicate that Brazil are contemplating actions which would prove unpopular in Washington? :confused:

    So the Soviets eventually developed an aircraft that probably could intercept the SR-71 – almost 20 years after the SR-71 entered service, big deal.:rolleyes:

    I think the point was being able to conduct an attack using the IRST as the targeting sensor.

    It is interesting that the both the USAF and USN see fit to go to considerable lengths and expense to fit IRST systems to their aircraft.

    I wonder why….

    C’mon people… think.

    Does anyone in here seriously think that (fighter) radar is going to be the primary instrument for detecting and localising enemy contacts in any hypothetical 2015-2025 large scale conflict?

    Seriously? :confused:

    Why not get the pilot to hold a big sign out the side of the cockpit saying “here I am, shoot at me”. It would be just as effective.
