But then, if the purpose of the paper is to point out how joint programs don’t save money, what about having to set up: separate training, depot and maintenance, spare parts, different hardware and software upgrades for a variety of fighter platform types?

Their point is that the cost of maintenance/training etc is outweighed by the cost of complexity due to cramming too many functions into one airframe.

Does the words “X86”, “Intel” or “AMD” tells you something ?

    C’mon, get another coffee :very_drunk:

ooooh – now that is risky grounds for comparison.

x86 survives due to inertia within the environment. NOT because it is the fastest or most efficient solution.

The odds are the F-35/F-22 will still have a comfortable level of Superiority over either the Russian PAK-FA or Chinese J-20.

    Only in your mind.

The F-22 is now ~20 years old. Still top dog (of in-service stuff), but its a bit much to expect time not to have closed the gap.

The F-35 has some cool electronics so it’ll have full situational awareness of what kills it.

I think what needs to be understood is that patents can, and are filed for any sorts of sh!te by aircraft OEMs and suppliers. Even I’ve been involved in more than a few that will never see the light of day as an actual product on an aircraft, but policy is to file “just in case”.

So while it can confirm a thought train has been pursued – it can not confirm the presence of that idea on an aircraft – something better may have come along, or the approach didn’t make it through later TRL gates.

How will it be in English?

    Hardpoints I suppose..

or pylons if you mean only wing-mounted…

But anyways, there is a little bit more to radar returns than 4 fudge factors. That approach is little more than a guess to be honest.

Whatever about performance, it is definitely beautiful!

Average value taken for the calculation. In the same scale RCS min F-22 – 0.3 m2, RCS min T-50 – 0.5 m2

    http://paralay.com/paralay_tab.xls

    Line 91 and 92

Are you actually trying to be serious?

    RCSmin = [FrontalArea/2]*[nLiftSurfaces/6]*coatingFactor*formFactor*plasmaFactor

    RCSmax = “point of suspension” + RCSmin + 0.5*0

No idea what “point of suspension” is and dunno why the last 0 changes only for the T-4 or Tu-22….

    RCS F-16 1.8 m2 clean or weapons on the external load – 10.8 m2

From what direction and at what radar wavelength?

Remember the laser doesn’t have to be on another plane it can be ground based. The result is the same a dead aircraft. Ground abased systems wont have same trouble with power systems as airborne ones will.

There was concepts of ground based lasers using dirigible mounted mirrors to both target and to chain-gang multiple lasers onto targets.

Laser are very real things while force fields are still just science fiction even it we would all like to have them both.

I meant more direct laser vs. laser combat

Perhaps DEWs will kill the dogfight, but BVR will be dominated by missiles even in the future.

Actually, in the medium term, I’d have thought the reverse could become true.

Your DEW would be powerful enough to take out a missile, but not powerful enough to take out a (suitably shielded) aircraft.

Which means your back to using the good ol gun.

    Then longer term, we’re into:

Reuters suggest that only the aircraft involved was grounded, and that passengers were transferred to another 787 for their flight to BKK.

It is entirely possible that I have been misled and it is not a fleet grounding…

    Ugh.

Can we please quit with the plane A has a RCS of X and plane B has a RCS of Y.

It is completely erroneous to attempt to condense it to 1 figure.

It is a subject that interests me – having no intention of learning a new interface and being unwilling to purchased ‘product-activated’ software, I am planning to run my XP-based system for years to come.

Windows 7 + dexpot + qttabbar + excel new instance

No engineer should be without at least the latter 3. [Or a nix box I suppose] I now find having to work on other people’s computers massively frustrating and significantly slower.

And don’t get me started on monitor sizes. Every engineer should be given at least 2 27″ screens. Its a false economy otherwise.

As regards the photos – it’ll be XP 64bit. 32 bit is no use for big models and XP is still kicking around in many, many design houses. Of course, the photos themselves are absolutely canned. Probably of things that are already out of date.

I am sorry, but it is not my job to point out mistakes in detail on the 3D model on this forum, i am doing that already for actual model makers.
