So to confirm, is the An-70 definitely being ordered?

I hope so, as when the plane was first unveiled years back, I thought it would do very nicely, with a bright future.

Two weeks ago Ria Novosti reported that an upgraded An-70 carried out a test flight

The Russian military is on record as planning to purchase at least 60 An-70s by 2020.

And in June also reported “We will definitely buy it,” Bogdanov said

I could not see data on which aircraft they usually use for carrying over-sized cargo.

They have a table listing An-124 and An-225 that links to their respective graphs and specs.

Looking at the price Yak-130 appears to be a more reasonable option, specially after the recent deal with Moscow.

A400 is a political project so even if An-70 was ready 15 years ago at half the price it would have been rejected based on whatever excuse at hand.

Classic trolling technique. Select one line out of a long post & ignore the rest.

No trolling intended and if I have not answered to the rest because I share the same thoughts although I see Taiwan flirting with heterodox approaches while developing the ongoing programs and creating a doctrine around their effective usage.

Why is Russia not a chance in hell?

Too much haterade, the struggle against evil empires continues being strong in some places.

Its that or developing their own aircraft… Lets face it, Europe wont sell them fighters, Korea wont let them in to the KFX, Russia? Not a chance in hell. India? Doubtful in the extreme. Etc, etc…
Its either an American Aircraft or a Taiwanese one.

An American aircraft can be all and nothing at the same time depending on the strings attached what equals being in the same voiceless choir as lesser NATO members.

Mistery solved, unless is one of those random claims that surface from time to time when things are all but clear.

Eventualy, when there are a few operational sqn´s of J-20´s, some US President will acept to sell the F-35.

Or not, F-35 is not F-16.

They cannot be, because they have no business interests in or economic ties with China.

India is a particularly attractive option since India is the sworn enemy of China.

China is the second largest trade partner for Russia and India after EU and Gulf States respectively.

Taiwan buying Indian Su-30s or FGFA needs the clearance of Russia unless they plan to buy Tejas when it finally arrives.

Owlcat, I have no wish to argue with you, I have no direct experience thankfully:)

I’m not trying to argue with you or anyone else, my last comment was intended to point that luck sometimes helps technology.

Wonder what the point was, after all they would have to be the stealthiest of systems to even stand a chance of survival

Not really, it wouldn’t be the first time that civilians call they police to report strange objects flying over their heads triggering a military response, it’s not like everyone is on high alert during peace time.

In Mars maybe, in the Taiwan straights scenario trying to fend off the PLAAF, with a mix of land based air defences and UAV´s is an invite for a entirely one sided target pratice match.
If the ROCAF wants to comit suicide, deleting its fighter force and increasing its SAM units and complementing them with “UAV´s” (whatever those are) is a fine way of doing it in style.
It might be doable to entirely eradicate the manned component of an air force several decades from now, but its not on the cards for the foreseable future.

If you know or have a better acronym for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs as the Federation of American Scientifics, among many others, refer to them) I would be very pleased to hear it.

And who has talked about getting rid of manned aircraft? The reality is that if Taiwan can’t buy new aircrafts in the near future they are going to need something to fill the gap until they find someone willing to provide them with affordable modern combat aircrafts in time, something that has proven not so easy even with F-16s upgrades.
