But if the Argentines were making threats and such to UK regarding the Falklands and China still sold weapons to them, then I imagine China would remain completely silent when UK starts asking Taiwan if they would, perhaps, like some Typhoons and maybe a Type 45 or two.

Wishful thinking, the UK is not going to sell Typhoons or Daring Class destroyers to Taipei even if Beijing was willing to give J-11s for free and exchange the fuel for beef.

What would the equivalent correct maximum range be for the Su-27 or Su-30?
I cannot recall seeing them ever equipped with external fuel tanks, so is the oft quoted max range of 3000 – 3600km on it’s large capacilty of internal fuel only?

    With 2 x PTB-2000 (1,860 l) external tanks Su-35 range increases up to to 4,500 km.

With further cuts in the horizon it’s a question of time that someone raises the issue of how much costs to maintaing “inhabited good for nothing” South Atlantic territories, starting with Antarctic bases.

In the end the issue is not islanders self determination but taxpayers determination to sustain Falklands if South American countries start hampering the economy of the islands.

If Argentinian government was really committed to rearm its armed forces they could secure the required loans selling the country’s resources, it’s not like they haven’t do it before.

A flotilla to harass Falklands/Malvinas on a budget only requires a handful of old fishing ships converted to ARA patrol ships for the price of lead-rich paint cans. Most insurance companies and shipowners can’t deal with the cost of shipping vessels stopped and searched multiple times and as long as ARA finds drugs or counterfeit goods in some of them no country is going to speak against it.

What about traditional RADAR, those two aren’t stealth aircraft? Any F-22 is going to operate in theatre with AWACS coverage.

The absence of AWACS link has been the excuse for nearly every USAF flaw in their performance since the first Cope India was held in 2004.

It doesn’t matter if Su-30 and MiG-21 aren’t stealth if they are not emitting the only way to detect them is by visually identification.

Any future option for the Venezuelan Air force depends on a single factor, when (not if) Chávez dies.

The last thing a polarized society like Venezuelan one needs is more turmoil.

Scrapping current Russian and Chinese deals for no reason is wishful thinking and a recipe for failure as western hardware is not to guaranteed only by rhetorics. And UN sanctions are to be expected if the country becomes a threat as it would be a no-win situation for all five Permanent Security Council members.

won’t the F-22A’s see the MiG-21’s and Su-30’s coming from miles away?

Supposing they were emitting like Christmas trees.

As it stands they can’t afford to acquire replacements and the Western manufacturers they would prefer will not risk extending credit to a nation at the centre of one of the largest defaults in banking history. The Argentine Airforce are apparently highly adverse to buying Chinese or Russian when it comes to fast jets.

Spare parts and credits depend on who is in La Casa Rosada, replace the Presidenta with a liberal or someone from the righ wing and magically all problems become solved.

Argentinian military sees itself as a western power so it’s completely normal that they only want western technology, also the brainwashing and racism has it’s share of blame when dealing with comunistas, rusos and chinos.

But how do you know that? Unless you have intimate knowledge of each countires present stockpiles you have no clue when they will be time expired. You’ll find some countries keep stockpiles at the ready for decades, Russia being a prime example.

Common sense, lasers are expensive and are going to continue like that for a long time unless battery technology improves beyond of what is feasible with current technology and dumb munitions are usually retired way before their expiration date even if they continue in storage for no good reason half a century after they were produced.

Resorting to old munitions comes in handy during civil wars when expired ammo of any type becomes useful for whoever puts its hands on them first but it’s a thing of necessity. In a conventional conflict smart munitions or improved conventional designs are going to be the preferred option when dealing with advanced point defenses for the next decades.

well to be honest it seem that russian inflate rcs of aircrafts from other countries to be equal to their own because RCS value need experiment to measure so it really hard to believe that russian know more about international aircraft than their own producer

Basically you are saying that Russians are lying to cover the embarrassment of their ever increasing RCS planes because they can’t measure RCS effectively, right?.

Perhaps, but even if a munition were to be designed that negates these new-fangled laser based area defence weapons the problem is that all the old munitions (perhaps hundreds of thousands in some nations arsenals) are useless and the expensve process of restocking has to happen if they want to keep that capability.

Most conventional munitions are going to reach their expiration date before laser point defenses are widespread enough to replace existing gun based point defenses that already today suffer from scarcity of air burst due to price.

Promotion to whom when a lot of those jets are not for sale, like the F-22, B-1B, B-2, etc?

To politicians, that are the ones buying all those jets, and dramatic numbers are always helpful to justify spending.

Based on the description of pilots who have engaged the F-22, namely the USN Hornet(No AESA), Japanese F-15J pilots, and German Typhoon pilots, there is no reason to dispute the alleged RCS of the F-22; it really is difficult to detect an F-22 at BVR range.

MiG-21 Bison is also difficult to detect due to its inherent small cross section and no one has advertized it as the pinnacle of aviation.

Defence-spending is related to a realistic threat. Brasil has no real threat from its neighbors for several years and by that it is just in need for some fighters for the air-police duty at first. Even a SH or Rafale are an “overkill” for that purpose by cold logic.

By that logic, and cost overruns aside, how F-35 has come to see the light of day?

More often than not defense spending is a thing of status, if Brazil wants to be recognized as a first rate international political player it is going to need a modern air force even if it is only to show-off when outsiders decide to show-off in the neighborhood.
