Such horrible news. We should just be very thankful that the pilot was able to avoid hitting any buildings on the ground and that it happened away from the main display area, there is nothing more horrific than a fatal accident taking place in front of thousands of people.
At least it wasn’t ‘We go all the way to make you feel special’
Keep the yellow cast, I like it, not quite as accurate perhaps but the Saudi shot in particular has a bit more character to it than the TNT pic.
Out of interest, what shutter and ISO speed are you using here?
It’s an offence to Impersonate a police officer, is there not one also for the offence these thieves?, who dress up as x Forces personnel?.
I suppose the problem is here that if caught they could easily argue that they were a re-creationist just playing along. Obviously there are already laws about obtaining money by deception but stopping people from making up stories about their past for no obvious gain apart from self-gratification is unlikely to ever come to pass.

“Pilots are so used to the auto pilot being in control that they have little experience of extreme conditions in manual control. Extreme conditions cannot be simulated in most flight simulators.”
Maybe I have missed something, but surely this is the very raison d’etre of the flight simulator?
Just watched ‘5 Days of War’ (2011) about the 2008 Russia-Georgia skirmish. Interesting setting with some good Mi-24 and Su-25 action although the story is rather uninspiring.

Ponderosa War Weekend – got to return the favour for my wife coming to Waddington and getting up at 5am to do so, by going to see some Hellcats.

Looking good to me, very sharp. My only suggestion would be to boost the contrast a fraction.
(Sorry, not a particularly funny comment, so have an amusing looking smilie 😮 )
Pics of aircraft civil and military and airport movements can reveal much to unsavoury characters with very serious anti social motives.
Perhaps photographs of the baggage handling facilities would be possibly of interest for anyone planning a Lockbie style bombing, but all of the recent airplane targetting terror attacks have either involved suicide bombings carrying explosives on the person, or via the postal service, neither of which could particularly be aided by photographs of aircraft.
Likewise pics of trains and railways (including stations, marshalling yards, etc) can be a haven for terrorist plots. e.g. in the USA freight trains are so very long (100-200 cars) that one can read a chapter of a novel while waiting their movement across a level crossing. I brought this up as the rear cars being a potential terrorist vehicle for routes in to city marshalling yards e.g. of getting a ‘dirty’ nuke or similar un noticed in to a city or metropolis.
Never heard of this idea before, I can’t see how putting a weapon on a railroad train would be any easier than driving it into a city, particularly since American railroad yards are often quite away from city centres and the particular routes of trains can vary heavily. In the event of an alert being sounded, it would be very easy to stop all of the trains entering an urban area (even if it would take weeks to search them all) than trying to stop all vehicle traffic. Not sure exactly what photographs of the trains would serve to prove either.
As a rail photographer most of the time, this comes as no surprise, most railway companies operate with an unbelievable vitriol against photographers and use any excuse to stop people photographing trains, endlessly reeling out the “security risk” and “terrorism” excuses, even though none of those involved in recent terror attacks in the UK or overseas have ever been found to have a computer full of photos of planes or trains (and quite what a shot of and HST or an A300 would help them do in planning a suicide bombing I have yet to have explained to me…?)
I think I got lucky. Coming down the A1 followed the yellow signs to the A17 then up towards the base. Got filtered into the first car park on the way in and then a quick bus ride down, about 8:30 (did mean a 6 am start though).
Got some neat photos which I will put onto my Flickr account in the next few days.
Not been to a major airshow in a long time (last one was a Mildenhall show!) so obviously it was mostly new to me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If I was being very critical I would say that having two groups of four-ship Extra 300 displayers did get a little repetitive and the subsequent Yak just seemed a little lost in the sky in comparison.
Not that I share the view but surely aircraft to the MoD are simply pieces of equipment with which to do a job? When it is decreed that their time is up, that’s it. They are not things about which they have any feelings or regard, despite their long service record. That’s what we enthusiasts are for.
But look at the number of times that retiring aircraft were given a big farewell flight, even repainted for the occasion (the Buccaneers for example carried a number of liveries for their farewell). Plus I imagine that those who serve on them must have some sort of attachment to a particular plane and I imagine boosting the morale of our beleaguered armed forces wouldn’t do any harm right now.
