No Tim, we’ve been in touch several times before. You gave me a picture of Kaj Birksted. 🙂 So we’re not the same person.

First name I heard in regards to Spitfires was Hanna. Sorely missed.

When it comes to that FW190, all I hear is

One part: We are waiting for them to go on with it…

Other part: We are waiting for them to go on with it…

    😀

He says on his website that he is thankfull for being english so he can reach out to a large audience. I wrote mine in Norwegian, and I see all the problems it causes. There is a major audience worldwide, and I’m not reaching it by doing it in Norwegian. I’ll see about that translation now :p

Looking at that Fury’s engine, can’t help but feel like I’m looking at:

    A) A humans inside organs
    B) Sci-fi space engine (warp 7)
    C) Can of worms

I have been in contact with this fellow that is trying to construct a script for a movie about Stanford Tuck. Hope it’s fine that I go public with it. If the guy in sincere, he is trying to get support from a company so the movie can be made. Could be interesting

    Totally agree–DON’T Make it.

Here’s an idea. Let’s do it. Why not be sure to bring this story into the 21st century and onwards. Let’s introduce the story in the right fashion to a whole new audience and make it live for another 50 years. Let’s invite the remaining veterans to the screening and make a big fuzz out of them. Let’s make bloody Tom Cruise or whatever stand and applaud them while they stroll by. Let the media go Dambuster crazy with stories of their heroism and sacrifice and make the world re-learn the story yet again.

Why remake it, when the original was perfectly good??

All is relative and subjective but seriously, it was not that good.

I’d ask why ‘King Kong’ needed to be remade, or ‘The Italian Job’ or even ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’…??–Get Carter, The Thomas Crown Affair etc etc etc.

You do realize that all these movies are fiction right?

Why not come up with some new ideas on WW2–or any era??

Come up with a better story than the Dambusters? The story is already outlined, it happened. It’s one of the best stories to be told from the war.

People cite Band of Brothers–good idea–no need to remake that either–even in 100 years.

I was referring to realism, not re-making. There will be no need to re-make Band of Brothers. Ever. There is a need to re-make the Dambusters out of all reasons given. The movie I’m sure was good in the 50’s, but it does nothing in 2009. In order to keep these stories alive, movies have to be made, stories have to be told. To refuse a re-make of the Dambusters is like shooting your own foot.

I think that’s what is worrying a lot of us.

Compared to the excellence of this masterpiece of a 50’s movie? Don’t get me going. It ain’t that good. BoB any day. One thing is to be against BoB for all sorts of reasons, another is to draw a paralell to The Dambusters and present that movie as superior to BoB. You have to be acting more on emotion and nostalgia than anything else.

Here are the last six minutes and thirty eight seconds of the original:-

I doubt any film made for the mass market these days would be of anything like this quality.

Good direction, actors who can act, a script written for an audience who have more than just the rudiments of the English language, some understanding of the cost of war etc etc.

    Alright, I gotta say.

I don’t get the fascination with this old piece of film.

I watched it last year and it was quite flat and dull. The characters had no real depth, the music didn’t fit the seriousness of the matter (seemed like schoolboys in the great outdoors musical) and the effects are obviously quite daft.

I understand there are issues like nostalgia, tradition and “what you are used to seeing” in this matter, but me – as someone who just saw the movie, wasn’t very impressed at all. I welcome a remake. Absolutely.

Why mention Flyboys or Pearl Harbour? Done the right way it can be Band Of Brothers for Christs sake. Why point the finger to the poor movies and not see the potential for something as positive as the quality war movies of the last 10 years or so?
