There’s the goat in my Spitfire goat thread. He’s my fave 😀

So tragic. Why didn’t he just say “Mmeeee”?
He actually used to do it, actually described by some as a very arrogant “mmmeee”. He did not do it when he was shot. Maybe he just got TOO arrogant to even bother. 😀
I’m sorry to say the goat was killed one night at North Weald. After one of his nightly trips around the local area he refused to answer to a “Halt, who goes there” from the guard on duty and was shot. 😀
Color is white so I’ll say Short Sunderland, just to be the most “out there” in guessing.
One of the engines is in USA and they’ve begun work on it yes?
Yes, who cares. It’s beautiful.
Interesting name though….:dev2:
The tour commenced in early August 1943 and lasted about three months. He flew to many bases including North Weald,
That might be spot on. However, the picture was given to me (indirectly) by a pilot who left NW on leave July 1st 1943 and went to Transport Command, so he couldn’t have been there. Which leaves two options:
He is not the photographer and someone else took the pic
The FW190 came to North Weald prior to July 1st 1943
It really does look like the same aeroplane.
Thats hardly fair.
Who here, hands down, could pinpoint and draw the state borders of Illinois on a map? Or name the capital of Montana?
i am quite friendly up at NW museum if you like i can ask them?
It would be of great interest to them
Indeed do!
It would be of much interests to know more about the photo. The original writing beneath the picture just states that a FW190 in British markings came to North Weald. My guess is summer 1943.
The Spits in the picture are of either 332 or 331 squadron. Propably 332. They’re MkIX’s so it puts the picture after they got these machines, somewhere early 43 I think.
Didnt an FW190 land at Pembrey in 1942? Perhaps this is the machine?
That story is told by several Norwegian pilots, so you might be very much right.
This the sort of thread on this Forum that really gets my goat and makes we wonder why i bother with it at all, the sort of total rubbish that is voiced!!!
Reminds me of music fans who “hope their band will break up” if one of the members quit. It’s a fascinating subject, having such a destructive feeling towards something you love.
Anyways, I wish them luck in getting it airborne. It is the natural progress of things and if it can be done, I say go for it 100%. The world could use a few more Lancs in the air. Why stop at 2? Get the third one airborne and after that a 4th!
Agreed the commentary was a little over done but I have to admit that I look forward to Bernard Chabert’s pronunciation of several flying terms.
Loved it when he started to talk philosophical about how we might have come from the stars or placed here by aliens or something. I thought it was brilliant that a commentator dared to make his mind wander a bit.
Am I? I know my stuff too and don’t want to hear it all day through a PA.
Yes you are.
There are several thousand people that doesn’t know their stuff. To create an interest in something you need the background information and the stories to create that interest in the first place. If you’re not being fed that certain information it will just be a bunch of planes flying around making noise.
It’s absolutely vital to have someone blabber on for two hours even though it pisses off a minority of hardcore aviation enthusiasts who know it all. Your knowledge came from something too. Many peoples interest in aviation have been triggered by an airshow and things said there they didn’t know.
I am not disputing they know their stuff, very clever and very lucky chaps,BUT we had no choice but to listen to it
I would love to know where you stood so you could’nt hear it,there will be one hell of a queue to get there next year
Very evil. :diablo:
I was seated between the B-17’s. It gave me a little less view of the flying but I heard NO sound from the commentators. Just some background noise which I didn’t pay no attention to.
Since it’s nagging time again, I’ll just chip in and say that the woman who did the Guinot thing was absolutely horrible. I guess she just must have been very pretty because her commentating was not.
I think you guys are a bit harsh. The commentators know their stuff. Yes, they may speak a little TOO much at times, but they also give out some good trivia that I didn’t know in the middle of all the information most of us here know anyway. We have to realize that we are not the regular airshow goer. We know all the stuff and we want the engines blah blah. You can’t simply satisfy a crowd with such an extreme difference and knowledge and interest. Yes, I dare to say it, some people actually thinks the Merlins are noise pollution and just like the look of the thing (disclaimer: I am not one of those!)
On Saturday I placed myself so I didn’t hear one thing from the commentators and on Sunday I was in the Gold Pas section and really enjoyed the commentating. Best of both worlds. Easy.
